WAPA water STT
PS That new nightclub did go to Home Depot and get two of those temporary cisterns. Good thinking on their part.
But who follows the law anyway?
I saw a picture (I am on STX) of their set up and it looks like they could have easily spent $5k. After that kind of investment, will they stick with that even when (if) WAPA comes back online?

Free water is preferable any day to metered potable water! There are many homes here (all over St Thomas anyway) which have been added onto over the years and whose original cisterns aren't large enough to accommodate the extra load. The construction of and materials used for these "temporary" cisterns has vastly improved over the years and I know that many of the people hooking into the newly installed potable lines are only doing so for emergency water back-up and are certainly not planning on using them for their main water supply. Just as well since so many of the newly installed pipes to the East end of the island have already broken anyway ... 😀
Happy New Year!
Fingers crossed!!!

"WAPA RESUMES NORMAL WATER OPERATIONS ON ST. THOMAS TOMORROW"
Is that like those "Free Beer Tomorrow" signs that I see all over the place?
Ha!! I hope not; I like water a lot more than I like beer!! 😮
Well? Are the taps flowing?

Some areas are still dry. The timing couldn't be worse for establishments banking on high season revenues. So very upsetting for business owners and so unforgivable for residents in the projects. I have hard time imaging life in a housing community anyway, but weeks without water service is nightmare--worse than third world conditions. Elderly and small children waiting with jugs for the water truck. In the USA? Isn't the VI housing authority under federal management? Now that the story finally has national attention (USA Today) maybe things will move faster
There are many homes that are not in the housing communities that have suffered as well --- and the effect on many businesses has been very expensive in both lost revenue and bottled water purchases.
WAPA returns to rationing....
WAPA returns to rationing....
I suppose there are two ways to look at this ...
- Trust WAPA (bwah-hah-hah-hah), that, now that EVERYTHING is fixed, they need to ration to build up their reserves. Which means, I suppose, that after this last bit of rationing, everything will be back to normal (until the next catastrophic failure, of course).
- Or, WAPA is, again, obfuscating, and a week from now, we'll still be hearing about water supply problems.
Disclaimer: On STX, but very much sympathizing with you all on STT.
I believe if you read the reports they indicate that this is not any 2 hour rotating rationing but "rationing" to primarily the housing projects from 9AM to 8PM to, as you say, enable their water tanks to reach max levels. I believe that three additional reverse osmosis plants are scheduled to be installed this week.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong. The department of housing de-commissioned the cisterns at the public projects years ago. Water is being diverted elsewhere during daylight hours 9-5. The plants on line now are TEMPORARY portable and on LOAN from 7Cs. WAPA's bond rating was down graded last week. Spin it however...
I believe the water at the Tutu housing project gets its water from the Donoe tank which is what is currently being replenished. It is a tank, not a cistern.

Wasn't the Donoe tank pressurized last week; thus the long awaited "return to normal service"? And if it's only the donoe tank, then why is water to Lindberg Bay cut off as well? According to WAPA's own press release: "...Currently, several large users are replenishing cistern water levels .."
At least WAPA had enough water flowing over the weekend to extinguish the bad press St. Thomas received last week. Unfortunately, watering down the facts doesn't change the truth.
FACT: Current demand out paces supply.
