Big news out by Cotton Valley.

Three linemen trucks at work today. One up on the ridge over Sierra Verde way. One just south of the firehouse at the Cotton Valley Trail intersection, and another further south in the neighborhood at the lower portion of the valley.

I had to break out my binoculars to confirm.

Electricity is literally in the air!!!

They are putting in 4 new poles on Meggie Hill and then the line crew can start stringing wire. Hopefully, power sometime next week. (tu)

My place is just past there, so I'm so hoping.... as we will be there in 3 weeks. I was told only 3 poles down between my place and Villa. so that should make quick work of things.

I would thinks so, there's probably more residents past me than that stay at Villa at any given time. My tenant's friend talked to them and they alluded that they were continuing on.

With the exception of Sept, Oct and first half of Nov, there are at least 40 people staying at VM every week. Dec - June, occupancy is around 100-120.

The owners that rent their units are going bonkers worried about their ability to get tenants into the units - started with Thanksgiving rentals and is getting worse the closer it comes to Christmas.

"On St. Croix, more than 100 customers were restored in William’s Delight, along with some customers to the east of Christiansted town, Barren Spot, Mary’s Fancy and Mars Hill. More than 80% of customers in Ginger Thomas are now restored, and approximately 90% of customers in Sion Farm. Several condo complexes on Feeder 6A as well as The Corner Pocket, Skyline Car Rental, and Sion Farm gas station have been restored.

On St. Croix, a partial road closure will be in effect on Thursday on the Island Center road (Route 79) westward to the intersection with Northside Road (Route 75). This roadway will experience a complete road closure on Saturday as crews work in the area.

And now that we have power my BBVI is working again.

Did not know that, thanks. I hardly ever see anyone go in or out of there.

It is a quiet group.????. We actually have 8 units that are occupied full time and even during hurricane season, there are folks, both owners and renters, that like being there during those “quiet times”. Normally, we are there for 2-3 weeks during that period.

"More than 700 off-island linemen are in the territory assisting WAPA with the restoration of electric service, and by mid-December another 100 are expected. Over the weekend, and on Monday, some customers in the following areas were energized:

o On St. Croix: Catherine’s Rest, Campo Rico, South Slob, Southgate, Strawberry Hill, Lagoon Street, Hannah’s Rest, Humbug, Whim, William’s Delight, Mount Pleasant, Sion Farm and Peter’s Rest;

Crews will focus this week on reconstruction and restoration in the following areas:

On St. Croix: Strawberry, Barren Spot, Mount Washington, All For The Better, Catherine’s Rest, William’s Delight, Campo Rico, Calquahoun, Annaly Farms, Mount Welcome, Sandy Point, Green Cay, Estate Mahogany, Judith’s Fancy and Mon Bijou.

WAPA, along with its contractors, have begun to install streetlights along major highways and thoroughfares in the territory as those areas are being energized."

I noticed the street lights along the back way up to SIon Farm from Hwy 74 are all very bright LED lights. All new I assume.

I hang out in F'sted a lot, over heard a lineman last night say he "hadn't seen a power line since I dunno when, things are going slow as shit".

sounds like there's some supply issues still.

Just today, I saw a crew remove a good, but old pole in front of a vacant lot and put it up down the street.

Well at least they haven't resorted to siphoning gas for the trucks.

"Reconstruction and restoration work continued across the territory on Tuesday.

On St. Croix, additional customers were restored in the vicinity of The Buccaneer and in Catherine’s Rest, Humbug, Mary’s Fancy, Whim, Campo Rico, Shoys, and Williams Delight where restoration is now 45% complete. Offices of the Departments of Human Services and Education were also reenergized. Additionally, crews carried out reconstruction work, planting poles, stringing lines and preparing circuits in Green Cay, Judith’s Fancy, Clifton Hill, Calquahoun, Queen’s Quarter, Concordia, Sandy Point and at the Container Port. The reinstallation of additional street lights was completed in the Hannah’s Rest area."

"With the territory-wide restoration of electric service now estimated at 48%, reconstruction and restoration continued Wednesday, interrupted at times, by inclement weather.

On St. Croix, some customers in the following areas were restored: Southgate, Tipperary, Sight, Union & Mount Washington, Catherine’s Rest, La Grange, White Lady, Barren Spot, Mary’s Fancy, Rattan, Sion Hill, Shoys, Mount Pleasant East and Hannah’s Rest.

Priority areas for restoration of service for the next five days include:

St. Croix: William’s Delight, Lorraine Village, Upper Love, Lower Love, Grove Place, Mt. Pleasant, Catherine’s Rest, Peter’s Rest, Anna’s Hope, Work and Rest, Humbug, Mount Welcome, Estate St. John, Judith’s Fancy, Mon Bijou, Calquahoun, Estate Glynn, Container Port, Little Fountain, La Vallee and the Rain Forest."

So it's been 78 days since Maria and were at 48% power restored and have another 42% to get done in 18 days before Christmas. Sure hope this process isn't linear.

It's slightly possible to meet the deadline but no holding my breath. Remember for the first 30 days nothing was done.

They put poles up by my home behind the Reef condos and are stringing line as we speak. You do not see Catherines hope ever mentioned in the reports, but it is happening, so I wouldn't always go by what is posted. I'm hoping to have power by Saturday, if not early next week. That is what the linesman told my tenant last week anyways, and they are there now. 🙂
