wapa outages? should i get a genrator? new to the island....
hi there-
im new to the island and since we've been here (almost 2 months) im quite surprised at the many power outtages in st sthomas....
can anyone explain this? why is this "normal"?
and should we get a generator? which one?
also, what internet is the best? innovative, choice or broadband?
thanks!
normal is what happens..
if you need electricity all the time get a generalor.
sloop.
Generators are noisy and expensive to run - a small one 2-10KW will power some or most of your house - if there is a hurricane you will be in long lines every day at the gas stations to get your fuel - many more people have them now - and if you need to have power then spend the $$ and buy a nice 20KW or more diesel unit - get an EPA permit for a good size - [250 Gal tank] - build a storage shed - have an electrician wire the start/stop switches to the main house supply and keep the door locked - try and have it muffled enough that your neighbors don't complain.
It is not normal to have this rotating outages but not unlikely at any time to have serious WAPA problems.
You might look into solar or wind systems and battery backup to supply enough energy for some minimal power.
We installed a UPS system just for our router and other electronics. Power goes off and I can continue to work the corporate job. At least, for about 6 hours until there's no juice left in the batter/UPS system.
For light-duty appliances, some people use an inverter and run things from their car battery during outages. It will handle a small TV or modem/router/laptop, but not the fridge.
It happens a lot.....Yes to the generator and pay a little more for the Broadband VI.
