Can anyone explain why Elizabeth Armstrong is on the WAPA board when she doesn't trust the utility enough to use it for her hotel?

Mapp's good buddy, just like everyone else who he places on the various boards to do his bidding and have control.

I'm not a fan of Armstrong, nor the Buccaneer. But she is a WAPA consumer in her other business endeavors. Can't blame her for protecting her main business interest. One profitable enough that it's able to sponsor its share of charitable island events and donate money for same.

Best to criticize her, and the other board members, for their lackluster overall performance on strengthening and modernizing WAPA itself. (Remembering that they have had to go to the mat with Mapp more than once this past year to get enough back payments to keep the lights on).

Not going there. She's a WAPA consumer, so das macht nichts.

a couple of quick thoughts:
1) who would know more about how to run a power plant, than someone who's hotel has generated its own power for more than 30 years?

2) the modernization plan calls for multiple smaller 7 Megawatt units, rather than single large 20-40 Megawatt units. This allows WAPA to ramp up / ramp down units as needed, saving fuel.

I don't believe Elizabeth owns Gallows Bay Hardware, that's her brother Robert Armstrong.

However, I'm not certain how everything is divided up.

I never said she was not a good business woman nor did I say she didn't know how to run things.

The Buccaneer Hotel property uses electricity from WAPA as their 1st choice. I don't know whatever gave you the idea they do not. They only go to generator power as a backup to WAPA, when WAPA is down.

Personally, I think The Buccaneer is the nicest Hotel on the island. Its an excellent, well maintained property, with a fantastic staff.
It may have never attained 5 star status, but lets face it, STX will never draw 5 star clientele in its current condition (although it surely has the potential to).
I can't imagine a much better resume (The Buccaneer Hotel) for a board member position, for any company, public or private.

The generators always seem to be running when I'm out on the golf course.

Are you sure it's the generators and not the water plant?

Their water plant may sound like generators/engines running. Some are just as loud as I recall.
