My bill actually went down $50.00 this month. I changed out a few light bulbs, but I'm sure the big difference is that I haven't been using my ceiling fans. I have two older Hunters that only ran on one speed...high. We fixed them so they can run on low, but it's actually been so cool, we haven't wanted to run them. Everything else remained the same.

I'm on my way to the website to see what our bills are.
Pray for me; pray for all of us...

I took a look at our bill. We used 229 units or $80 worth of electricity this month. However, we were gone for 2 weeks, so the run rate for a month would be 458 units or $160 for the month. We have a 3 bedroom, 1200 sq ft condo.

If someone is using this to estimate what they would use, you'll need to factor in these assumptions:
--there are only 2 of us using electricity
--we used no air conditioning for the month of January
--we changed all our light bulbs to florescent
--we have an energy efficient refridg, washer & dryer
--we usually grill or make dinner on the stove top--we rarely use the oven
--we are pretty good about turning out lights, fans, etc. when we aren't using them

Hope this helps. KJ

30% increase to $243 but admittedly the consumption amount increased. Don't forget the nifty website features that include a consumption chart and billing history!

Has anyone had experience with trying to get their meter tested? Our bills has been continuously $450 a month even this month when we weren't here for 2 weeks. We haven't used any a/c, we have all energy star appliances, and compact fluorescent bulbs, there are two adults and one small child in the house. The house is 1,600 sq ft and only one level. We really expected it to drop significantly this time because of the no a/c and being gone two weeks, but it didn't. The meter today read 500 kwh UNDER what the ending billing period reading was on 1/8.

christineq it sounds like they're estimating you, my meter gets read by the wapa guy in the beat up jeep every month but only if we are home to get the dogs inside, if not then it's whatever the last month was.

TRW...how many computers you got in that room!

They sell cooling devices for computers, like mini radiators, and they run off the computer's power, so you're not drawing amps like a standalone AC. Being that I usually have two going at the same time, I understand the heat issue. So tell me, is it a comfort or hardware issue for you?

christineg - look at your bill and see if there is a capital E to the left of the reading. If so, they simply estimated your meter this month and expected that you used about as much as usual. Next month they should do an actual reading and you'll get the smaller bill you were expecting to get this month. It's really irritating when they do this with rental properties the month that tenants swap out as the pro-rations get all messed up when the numbers are wrong.

neil, i just have the 3 but i noticed all of my books were getting musty and the cd's and vhs tapes and everything just keeps better in a cool room ,i sit in here with the door open a little so i can hear the rest of the house and the door is closed the rest of the time, i was'nt complaing by any means about wapa yeah our bill did go up some, but we live in lavallee and we get alot of rain here so the wet and salt air ruins stuff we lost 2 computers due to salt air and humidity it just fries everything so i keep the new ones cool, and the dogs like to come in here and lay down when i'm in here so it works for them as well and none of my leather stuff mildews anymore and my books don''t stink.

I don't want to see mine since we pay commercial rates. Won't get it until next week. I try really hard to remember how bad it was for months after Hurricane Marilyn when I'd have paid anything for electricity but that trick might not work when I see the next bill.

I've been pretty good about turning off the little water heater I have & use mostly the curly light bulbs so I hope that actually is helping.
