Wanted: Moving to STX Need Everything
We are excited! Just bought a house on St Croix. We am moving in on Dec.3rd. The house is empty and we will be needing:
Furniture
Beds
Appliances
Plumbing stuff
SUV Car
Household stuff
Kitchen stuff
Washer / Dryer
Tractor / Garden equipment
Paint (lots of paint)
Please let us know if you have anything to sell or give away.
Very much appreciated.
Your new neighbors,
Paul & Rose
They've got a little furniture at the animal shelter thrift shop (downstairs).
wow, so you decided to not bring anything with you.
the womens coalition thrift store has some stuff. its by the brass key
there is a place up in peters rest i think near the used furniture store
there is a place at the corner of the by pass-she has antiques, right behind the old ice cream place
See my ad for fridge in classified forum. Price reduced to $450. Less than half compared to new, and barely used.
Check Craig's List, http://virgin.craigslist.org
your local STX newspaper, AVIS, and classified section of this forum.
Also Cruzan Trader which is a free advertising publication that comes out once a week on STX. On STT, it's called Island Trader.
Many advertisements for moving sales, furniture, cars, etc.
Doubtful you'll need a tractor.
IF you do, probably cheaper to rent.
Everything thing else, you'll have to find your way around to stores that sell the products you want.
Thank you so much for your kind advice.
Cheers, Paul
I have 2 year old living room furniture, excellent condition.

Is that place still open? I thought it closed.
Just go to Carlos furniture. Pick out everything you want and make a deal. Those guys are awesome and always hook us up. We got the last model temperpedic that was tagged $2k for just over $1k. WORTH EVERY CENT! I've never paid more than a few hundred for a matress but dang it's amazing.
Royal is good to work with as well for new stuff. We've bought from both.
I have 3 high back upholstered bar stools, a self propelled lawn mower and a weed whacker for sale. If you are interested, pm me.
thank you for the name that slipped my mind.
yes she is and if you go there you could buy me the beautiful blackberry bowl. i fell in love with that.
she is a wonderful person. i was there about a month ago.

I would buy as much as you can back in the states, especially for household and kitchen items. Places like Macy's ship here for free. And the quality and prices will be substantially better! If you want to know what is available here just visit your local Kmart and multiply the price by 130-200%. Gallows Bay Hardware has a decent Kitchen selection but their prices are MSRP + VAT + $$$. Even when shipping furniture through VICargo you'll end up ahead. And you won't have to deal with the out-gassing from the adhesives and foams that are used to make the furniture that is sold here!

The good furniture sold by reputable dealers (not Kmart) in the VI is solid wood with minimal stuff for out-gassing and made to hold up in island life. What you don't want to do is buy furniture stateside that won't hold-up (you certainly can find stuff that will but stateside sales people aren't likely to know) under the heat, humidity, and bugs we have.
he is saying that particle board is not the best down here. i did purchase some particle board bookcases from walmart recently. so far i am fine with them
Buy the little stuff you're going to need from your stateside $1 stores!
Mail it down.
Do you have that in STX?
We have one in the Tutu Park Mall.
(Except it's a $2 store.)
I hit one while I was in FL recently getting the house ready for my move.
It was great! Spent $78 but got what I needed so when I do the move with dogs everything is ready for us and can wait for the things I'm shipping from here, ocean freight.
You'll find everything a bit more expensive here, especially spices, kitchen odds and ends, shampoo and conditioner, etc.

I spent the last 6 months of 2015 and a good portion of 2016 going nearly every two weeks to EVERY furniture store on st-croix. And I still go monthly looking for knickknacks. The salesman in the stores are aware and have acknowledged it... The next time you are in a furniture store on island, open a drawer or cabinet and smell inside it! The only store where my comment does not apply is Sweet Lime Furnishings.

And yet it was furniture purchased at Sweet Lime that introduced powder post beetles into my house.
