My family and I (includes 5 yr old daughter) are considering moving to the USVI. I am a dive instructor/bartender. My other half is a divemaster/bartender and sells commercial real estate. How feasible is it to live and work down there? What would a two-bedroom apartment go for a month? What does the typical divemaster/instructor make per month? What does the typical bartender make and are there any jobs available? When is the best time of year to find a job/an apartment? Any and all tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, This will be a great move. I work for the Daily news and I have a copy of todays' issue right here...let's see...apts...Now it depends upon what side of the island you wish to live on. Rents go for around 775.00 no pets plus utilities./ 2 bdrm condo W/ a view of Magen's bay- 925$ another for 975$- Have you ever been here? A really GREAT person to contact would be Rochelle Ellick of Ellick Real Estate. She's been on island for @ 30 years, is very honest and has a wonderful reputation. She has been my landlord twice and I hope to move soon to another of her apts. Her fax/phone: 340-777-6463 or phone:775-1155 0r 777-0347. Her email- ellick@islands.vi Here's another phone_ 779-2928. You may write her @ 168 Crown Bay St. thomas vi 00802. If she hasn't a spot for you, she'll know who does. She has a guest house also for 50$ per nite, should you wish a few days to check out the island. I don't see any bartender jobs in todays' paper, but there ususlly are some. It's off season,so things are slower. That can work for or against you. There are jobs. You may want a paper mailed to you. If you give me an address, I'll get one to you. I work in advertising and I'm often in contact with business owners, including dive shops. If a job isn't available today, one soon would be. My husband and I came here just about one year ago. We had never been here, didn't know anyone and through Rochelle, we had an apt in 4 days and a car in 3. My husband got a job within 2 1/2 weeks, my bro-in-law in one. It took a bit longer for me, but I got a job I love. I would be glad to be as helpful as is possible in getting you settled here. It is a BEAUTIFUL place. People come here all the time with no apt and no job and it works out. The weather here is usually @ 85-89 degrees but the humidity is high. Very. Hurricane season is from june to nov- mostly @ September/ November. but many people go through them, so...I just called one of many dive shops. They said that the average pay is @ 70$ per dive with about 2 dives per day. I believe that is for a dive instructor. Want to know more? Go ahead and e-mail me - rrrhamy@hotmail.com See ya on da i'lan, mon irie ?
