Walmart - Free Shipping on orders over $50 to USVI
Having completed two pre-move visits, we looked for things that we might not be able to find in the VI's. My wife discovered that on Walmart.Com you can order many items that will be shipped to the VI's and if your order is over $50, there are no shipping chanrges. Just out of curiosity, I loaded up my online shopping cart with random things like a coffee maker, 409 cleaner, beef jerky, unsweetened almond milk, a pair of flip flops and toilet paper. The only item ineligible for shipping to the VI's was the 409. I'm guessing it has something to do with chemical shipping restrictions. Anyway, the rest of the order shows an estimated arrival date of March 31st except the flip flops which say April 1st.
When we were on St. Croix this past summer I tried 3 different orders from Amazon and even though I had Prime, there were still shipping charges. They were nominal charges and worth the extra cost. All 3 packages arrived with no problems and in about 5 days. Not bad.
Just thought I would share this bit of info in case some may not know.
We have another recent lengthy thread discussing free shipping to VI including the plea bargaining to get free shipping from from Amazon. Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, probably others do ship to the VI however only for merchandise they sell directly, not "marketplace" items. And even with that there are still some items they will not ship at all. No particular obvious logic behind that, it's anyone's guess. Items too hazardous for air shipment might be restricted. USPS does ship standard rate by boat. USPS and FEDEX only by air. Might be not enough profit, might be packaging of a particular item, might be specific logistics of an item. Some retailers items are shipped directly from the manufacturer's warehouse, not their own, perhaps they can't or won't ship to VI. I've seen items in same category where one item will ship and the other won't Sometimes have to make the purchase decision based on what they will ship. I've done that. My delivery times from Walmart and Amazon were pretty reasonable. Best Buy shipped USPS standard rate going by boat which takes 3-4 weeks.
I've started ordering from Walmat.com recently and have had mixed success. On a recent order, I tried to get boxer briefs for my husband and son, and some pantyhose, and all three of them came up as "restricted". Same order had a cordless phone (with lithium ion batteries) and that was NOT restricted. I got a message that three of the items that were in my order would be delayed. They were the first things to show up. Another package followed (with socks, which are not restricted) and other items. The bulk of my order is still not here and it says that "pre-shipment info has been received" when I track it. That is the only update since March 9th. I inquired about it and they tell me that it really did ship, but that is all I got other than a $10 credit for my inconvenience. Still waiting though. The convenience of having things shipped to me on STJ, and the prices, usually make the wait not that big of a deal. Just have to plan ahead a bit more.
When a company will not ship here I have my orders sent to Paradise Freight; usually free shipping to Miami and the PF shipping charges are nominal.
It's a good idea to use the search engine. This six page thread pretty much covers everything and links an earlier thread which does the same:

Sounds more like my Amazon shipping experiences, courtesy credit and all. My Walmart orders so far have seemed to come as expected. Just have to work around the random won't ship here items.
Yes! Hanes boxer briefs! But the socks I got were also Hanes, and the pantyhose were some off brand. Thanks for the tip on that. I will look for a different brand and see if they ship. Still waiting on an update on the rest of the order. I'm going to give it another couple of days and cancel and probably try again.
Amazon can be hit or miss for me as well. I ordered a computer bag and a purse from there and it sat for a week and a half waiting to 'update' me on estimated shipping date. So I canceled. Ended up having to find someone to cross ship for me on that one. But the Amazon.com price was about $40 less,or 1/2 the price as elsewhere.
Mixed results with JC Penny's as well. They had a great sale Buy 1, get 1 for 1¢ on lot of items and 25% site wide as well. Got new towels and sheets for a killer price and the order was here in less than a week. I fussed around with a few other items but you don't find out they won't ship until you go to check out. Which is a pain in the butt.
i had the same problem with hanes.
i ordered some stuff through walmart-they sent an email saying it was shipping and a week later another email telling me they were refunding some money because they were not able to ship. ODD
love jc penney-recently bought sheets and towels from them. my most favorite sheets now. i think they were just the jc penney basics
I've ordered over a thousand dollars from Walmart. From food to coffee makers, microwaves and everything else. Got most of it within 3 days as they use the usps. A few items delayed but way better pricing and that's ok with me. Best buy took a little longer. Just make sure you click on the box that it's from the store {forget the actual wording) , not one of there vendors. Based on island prices I save at least 40-50%
