you will pay and arm and a leg for shipping-sometime even more than the cost of the item you are purchasing but it takes usually a week

They do not ship free to the USVI. They also do not ship all items to the USVI. Here's a link:

Amazon.com does not ship for free to the USVI either, and again not all items are allowed to be shipped. You will find when you go to check out that you will be told that products are ineligible. This is why many people use a freight forwarder such as VI Cargo.

Very little ships for free to the USVI from any web merchant. If you're considering one most web merchants have a shipping section in their help menu which provides details for shipping outside the continental US.

A couple of years ago, Walmart sent everything to the USVI for FREE. Then, mysteriously, they stopped the policy and began to charge.

We used to order a couple of boxes of groceries every month when the shipping was free. We then ordered and got the free shipping to Paradise Freight and at times that worked out, depending on the size of the boxes that they packed the groceries in.
Now, we just load up on certain items when we go back to the States. Costs nothing for us to bring them back as luggage so it works out.

we actually do get a lot of free shipping. there was a thread a few years ago that listed who ships here and what the cost is. you have to expand your search perimeters to go back further than 1 year

Not strictly true. I posted this a couple of months ago and the same routine is still working for me:

I've seen that post of yours OT. And I definitely plan on using that strategy when we move to STX next year. Great advice!

I purchase from Amazon very frequently and have never had a problem getting my orders shipped. Most of the time, I ship to Paradise Freight if they won't ship the item directly to the VI. Never a problem.

OT, to be clear, you're not referring to Amazon Prime, you're referring to items which offer free shipping, which are two separate programs. If it is Amazon Prime please clarify.

Like sunshinefun, we ship to Paradise or VI Cargo in Miami and have items brought on the boat. It is the most economical.
