the walmart situation is being discussed on The Vibe-some people say it is a customs issue. if that were true why can some people still get household items and why do they still ship at all.
I bought a TV from Walmart about a month ago and was having some problems with it. I called them late last week(after all the shipping problems started) and they mailed out a replacement TV very quickly via USPS and I got it early this week.
SO.....this leads me to believe it is NOT a shipping problem. They were able to mail it out right to me with no problems.
This whole situation is very strange and its odd that we have not gotten any answers as of yet.
well, it is mostly household items and toiletries that we are having the problem with. someone at work tried to order a ds handheld gameand other games to go with it and they would not ship that. another person at work was able to order games for a ds and wii.
no rhyme or reason
so this morning i also hear that stt is not having the same problem with shipping that stx is due to senator r.r.
Don't know if this is true or not.
The order I placed with walmart.com after reading this thread went through and arrived shortly via Priority Mail. It was NOT for household items though. It was for a toddler bike. I did also throw some household items into the cart just to see what would happen and it was a no go. Said they could not ship due to restrictions. I can still order from cvs.com for household items.
I emailed them again yesterday, told them we were about ready to give up on Walmart shipping to the USVI.
Here's their reply:
We have to inform you that we had a temporary issue to ship to US Virgin Islands and other APO FPO Addresses due to some carrier restrictions. It suppose to be corrected by October 18. We advise you to contact your local post office and check with them if they changed the shipping requirements.
So now they are saying it is a USPS problem?
Will check with them....
Ship your Wal-mart orders to VI Cargo....no issues there and cost effective!
So, stopped at the post office today, asked them what the problem is, and was told that it is not USPS that is the problem, but it is the governor's office...?!
Don't know...
They also said that they had a customer today picking up a Walmart order, she had said she did not have any problems, but she did have to $15 for shipping.
I gave up, I ordered today (after 3? weeks) and had it send to ViCargo, will see how it goes.
I'm not sure how the governor's office could be involved in the delivery of the US mail?
Well, that is what I I was thinking too.
They told me it was in an effort to have people buy locally.
I'm not claiming that any of it is true nor that it makes sence, just that that is what I was told.
By the way, my Walmart order was just shipped, all by Fedex.
what was your order? any household or toiletries
Small groceries and toiletries.
Tried once again to order from Walmart. Vitamins and supplements. Would not ship to my STX address.
Lucky, me too...............I would like to know what's REALLY going on with Walmart.
interesting
Just picked up my Walmart shipment from VI Cargo and did the math. Still saved money. Not as much as the free shipping option, but, still was able to save some.
"buy local" some of the items I ordered I can't find on island. I have checked for 2 years.
Maybe Wal-Mart's margins are less, so it's no longer profitable for them to ship to USVI for most items. My friends in the States are saying Wal-Mart's prices are no longer consistently the lowest, so they've started shopping elsewhere.
it was discussed on the country station talk show today. someone said the government requested that walmart restrict shipping to us on household items. not the post office and not walmart.
Someone said ...
Maybe someone who's having this problem with Walmart could call the Governor's office to find out whether or not this is true. The number is 774-0001.
I doubt the governor's office would admit to that. Can you order directly from the Wal-Mart in PR?
i don't know the someones name but i think she is one of the talk show hosts on that station
It's sad we can no longer get crackers that aren't stale, dog food without bugs and laundry soap at a reasonable price. However, if they continue to ship to VI Cargo, I will continue to shop Walmart.com. The ladies at the VI Cargo office, as well as the gentlemen in the warehouse are all professional and pleasant. They even carry the heavier stuff to the car without even being asked.
No shopping carts in the store, never have that problem online! Not having to wait in line for 20+ minutes to find out it's a cash only line. (no signs posted) Products you went for are not on the shelves and poor customer service of Kmart and other establishments here, why would you not want to shop online?
I doubt the governor's office would admit to that.
Rather than make an assumption, it would be so easy to call and find out.
I've voiced my opinion, and I've only bought from Wal-Mart once so I'll leave making the call(s) to somebody else.
