I heard that a local senator was trying to stop Walmart from shipping here so we had to buy local - does anyone know if this is true?

That's just patently ridiculous - unless you can provide a verifiable link/source? If you get your local news from the street and total hearsay then you'll be posting on this and other local forums 'til Kingdom come.

Hey OT,

It's an election year so I would put anything past this bunch of (for lack of a printable, inoffensive word) yahoos that are our Senators.
Don't they also want to tax everything that comes in? After all, they need another $6.9Million Dollars of our money to waste, misspend, misuse, mismanage, misappropriate and steal!

I tend not to subscribe to wild "street conspiracy" theories. If there be proof then let it be provided. 😀

being in the research mode while my son his wife and the granddaughter make preps to move over to st thomas, are there any food pet items that can not be shipped to the po boxes in a "granny box" once a month?

Is fresh milk pretty much becoming unobtainable other than powered or canned? Maybe we can co op a goat or dairy cow dairy??? is there room for one? On that note anyone ever ship a horse in? I would hate to part with mine.

We get nearly all of our pet supplies from Petco.com They will ship here for free with a minimum order of something like $50.00. Their prices are 30-40% of what Superior rips you off for. Wag.com is another site to check out.

Shipping horses can be pretty expensive.
You can check with Humane Society as they may know the name (or someone else here may) of the rescue organization that helps retired racehorses find new homes in the states. I can't think of the name right now but they deal with getting the horses off island, which I understand is no easy task and costly.

Tried once again to order from Walmart. No go. Even tho their drop down menu for shipping shows the Virgin Islands, when I put in my address it says unavailable. I'm guessing the VI Gov't is wanting their gross receipts tax or some other obscure tax paid. Why stop shipping here all if a sudden? Ah, well, it IS an election year. Greedy, SOB's! Wonder how the senators are going to pay THEIR WAPA bills without some kind of extra "TAX" to line their pockets with.

thanks for finding that for me i will have to look into it. Lots of things to look into and consider before i would make the move. My son and his wife and the granddaughter will be moving over they are in the process of the huge to do list.

It is a shame about the Walmart shipping. Of course there is more to it than we will ever know but stay on them and push for the problem to be fixed quickly. Nothing worse than wanting or haveing a need and waiting and waiting.

I poked around on soap.com and found that many of the items that I shop for are reasonably priced, and when they have coupons, even better. They also partner up with a bunch of other sites, diapers.com, wag.com, to name a couple. Maybe I will give it a shot, let you know how it goes. Could be more than a month by the time anything arrives since it's ground shipping.

This is just what I heard and I was looking to see if anyone else had heard or knew the same. I don't entirely believe it, BUT I do believe that is it possible given our esteemed Senators track records.

As for shipping horses - I have shipped horses to STX from PR - they generally go by boat. I know we used the Norma H and BlackHawk shipping. No idea how to get them to PR. Have you looked into where to keep your horse on STT? I do not believe there are many stables there or pastures like in the states. STX has more flat land and Pony Club where you can keep your horse. I know when I was younger and in Pony Club, the STT one was pretty small and mainly rocky ground with small pastures. The people in PC on STT did the absolute best they could with what they had, but if you are coming from the states, you might want to seriously look into where you would keep your horse(advice for BOTH islands).

As far as I know it is not illegal to have competition.

If Cost U more and K-Mart don't like it then they CAN find ways to lower prices, even with WAPA.
We need to complain, if that is even true and even if it's not.
Our choices are soooooooooooooooo limited.
Can't order from TJMax, Target won't ship, depends what you order from Amazon - no shipping to PO Boxes, some places don't even have the VI in their drop down.

Our local stores won't even accept coupons which I find ridiculous.
Coupon shopping is a way of life in the states which has already cheap prices compared to here.

We suffer needlessly by being a basically unrecognized Territory.
Virgin Islands - huh, where's that?

Why must we pay horrendous prices from Fed-X and UPS when VI USPS is same rates as states?
It's a hold-up!
Isn't this something our delegate can and should address?

We should have the freedom to shop and ship if we so choose.

I put together a whole basket of stuff on there last night & they wanted $35 for shipping! I ended up buying from drugstore.com instead... $10 for expedited shipping.
Also had no problems with Keurig.com (they ship FedEx for free >$45) and Macy's.com.

Just saying.... There are other online merchants, happy to take our money.
I also use EBay!

Is there no Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Dollar Store or.99cent store available? Wonder why Walmart, Kohls, JC Pennys hasn't looked into The area in the Vrgin Islands as a store front, they have a captive audience that needs and wants what they provide plus when tourists are in an area sometimes knowing they can run into a store like that for a necessary item is a real comfort. Are there thrift stores or resale stores?

I am looking forward to coming and checking it all out. Seems like there could be a lot of great opportuinites for a few big name chain stores to come in other than just tourist trap stuff.

I highly doubt that Kmart could raise a big enough stink to halt inporting of goods from any company.

The shipping charge drops significantly if you have $49+ in the cart. I am going to stick with cvs.com for now. Although I do like that soap.com gives you the option of Priority or Express (if you are willing to pay for it!)
