20% tip is a norm for me because I know that I'll be back (how many different places to go on an island?) and don't want to piss off anybody handling my food. Plus, I know how hard it is to wait tables. If I get really good service, I'll go higher than 20%.
I hate to have one check with a group. I want to know that I am tipping 20% and don't have to make up for others who don't feel as I do by slipping in more cash.
i tip on the complete deal, if i have a coupon i tip on price before the coupon is used.
i do that too... always tip on the total value, and if it's a freebie, i tip on the whole deal. i don't want to make the staff member lose out, since her or she will work just as hard, whether i am "comped" or not.
i have never been a "waitron", but i can only hope that those of us who do tip, make up for those of us who do not.
a davis, sometimes those of us who do tip do make it up to those of them that dont. even if its just that we are friendlier that kinda helps too.
also even if the bill is high i still tip my 20% i dont cheap out on the tip because the bill is higher.
