Joe Biden on STX today. It would be nice if he would look at the VI government and the way they spend our money.

Like all politicians, Joe Biden is worried about Joe Biden and no one else.

He has been interrupting the lives of the folks on Water Island for a couple of years, so now it's your turn St Croix! 😛

Saw Barney Frank on St John last week. Tis the season, I guess.

It's not up to Joe Biden or Barack Obama to "fix" what ails the USVI, it's up to the people in the USVI. If you care, register to vote. If you care, exercise the right to vote. I remain totally gobsmacked by so many posters on this forum who post "news" which was in the newspapers days ago and have no idea what's going on other than the scurry nonsense they read via Facebook.

So many of you don't have a clue about what goes on. You pontificate endlessly about what should be done but most of you don't actually get involved in any effort to create change. You sit back and throw out facts and figures on this forum but this forum isn't much of a mouthpiece. Where politics are concerned, getting out on the street and using the local media to accomplish any change is important but voting is key.

Spout to your heart's desire on this forum about what ails us. I'll pay better attention when I see some action based on facts. Lucy, did you ever get in touch with Jason?

Wonder what would happen to the police/security on the island should he decide to retire here (as I heard on Twitter)?

I was at the Buccaneer Golf Pro Shop when VP Biden went there after golfing along with some secret service people. He actually reached out to shake my hand. Shaking hands with the VP of U.S. was awesome. It was a once in a lifetime event for me to be in the company of the VP of U.S. even if it was only for a few minutes.

to Old Tart - Regarding voting, I have voted since I moved here 11 years ago. With the exception of voting for Sen. Nellie O'Reilly, I am not convinced that any of my other choices have effected any positive change. Furthermore, there is growing suspicion and possibly evidence that the BOE is corrupt and that elections have been rigged. There have been some very enlightening articles and discussions on cruciansinfocus and freemandsground.

The problems here are so deeply entrenched, and the corruption so completely widespread, that I am starting to think there is nothing the average citizen can do to fix things, at least at the governmental level.

2 boats patrolling the water in front of his house this morning...a bit excessive. I wonder what this trip is costing all of us, and how much of it is being paid by the VI? Doesn't appear stx is getting any much-needed positive publicity from his visit either..haven't seen much on the media.

To the best of my knowledge and based on many previous visits by many other high ranking politicians, these are private visits and are in no way funded by either "us" or the local government. The VP travels with his own security staff and any extra services provided locally are paid for by him. This is not a political visit and thus not an opportunity for reaping "much needed positive publicity". There is certainly good publicity garnered purely by his choosing the US Virgin Islands for his vacation.

The reason you don't see much in the media is that the Virgin islands have for years been a place pretty much where many "celebrities" have vacationed and continue to vacation because they're left alone to enjoy their visit and relax away from the incessant shutterbugs and paparazzi. Half the time they're hardly recognizable anyway devoid of makeup and fancy duds but when they are recognized it's invariably the gawking visitors who make a big production out of everything and then post for years afterwards wondering if "their" celebrity will be here next time they visit. 😀

OldTart,
The Vice President of the United States of America is Guarded by the Secret Service 24/7 every day of the year as well as his family. No money out of his pocket for Safety and Security. The FBI is also a Back Up.
