...has anyone here been ticketed by VIWMA?

I think there could be a scam in action, so I am collecting info...

There's a list of items that you cannot throw in a dumpster and must take to the dump.
There should be a list on their VIWMA website.
People can get a ticket for dumping large items such as non bagged yard waste, appliances, furniture, oil, etc., tho many seem to do it
and get away with it on a regular basis. Too bad they just don't put out a few roll in dumpsters for appliances and furniture since many do dump there anyway. I hate to go to the landfill when I have large items to dispose of but I do it anyway. It is sooooooooo smelly!

A gentleman had many bags of household trash, some his, some he took for a friend since he was going. VIWMA ticketed him $1000 for dumping 'bulk' waste, the VIWMA officer said he had too much, and told him to read the sign about bulk waste. The sign indicated bulk items as being appliances, beds, furniture, etc. There was no posted limit on how many bags of trash is allowed.

The VIWMA officer took many photos of the front of his truck, but not a single photo of what he was being ticketed for.

This makes me wonder if there is a scam going on, and I was looking for any others who may have experienced a similar ticket.

Where are these incidents happening? Sion Farm bins? Cotton Valley bins? VIWMA sites? Other locations?

The gentleman has lived on STX for 28 years, and is afraid he will get the ticket because of the way judges operate...he feels like he has a losing battle. I did send the info to Stella Saunders at WMA, let's see what she does with it...

sounds like the govt. is getting desperate for funds. have seen people at cv mall (dump) throw truck full of stuff. and what about the people who get in the dumpsters and throw the stuff out? can you get ticketed for that as well?

DixieChick, that is exactly what I am concerned about: govt getting desperate for funds.

And the guys who climb in and throw trash all around, well, the officer commented to my friend about them as they were doing just that. The officer could have told them to stop, but he didn't even do that. Instead, he gave a ticket to someone he thought was more likely to pay, leaving the bums to continue making a mess of things. Biased ticketing, eh?

Biased is correct.

I had a load of "house prunings" and was backed up to a huge pile of the same and a man next to me with the same.

The young guy in the VIWMA truck singled me out and told me I had to deliver all my load to the landfill and just watched as I retired my load and the other guy dumped his.

Biased?

Well, we CAN make a difference. We need to keep connected on these incidents, and bring it to an end.

I posted the same info on FB, tagging Stella Saunders, and she is NOT pleased with my doing so. Too bad.
