VITEMA to Assess Tsunami Sirens on STT, STJ and STX from Friday to Wednesday; Brief Test Message to be Broadcast
The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA) will individually assess tsunami sirens on St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix, respectively, between Friday, March 11, and Wednesday, March 16, in preparation for the March 17th tsunami exercise called CARIBE WAVE 16.
During the assessment, technicians will briefly sound the sirens to test the volume. Sirens are located at:
St. Thomas: Cyril E. King Airport, Crown Bay, Addelita Cancryn School, Griffith Park, Magen’s Bay Beach, Mandela Circle, Long Bay, Enid Baa Library, Coki Point Beach, Frydenhoj, Red Hook.
St. Croix: Cramer’s Park; Divi Carina Bay; DC Canegata Ball Park; Government Parking Lot— Christiansted; Estate Sion Farm; William’s Delight; La Vallee; Government Parking Lot— Frederiksted; Fisher Street—Frederiksted; Sprat Hall—Frederiksted.
St. John: Winston Wells Park, Cruz Bay; Guy Benjamin School at Coral Bay.
I never heard any warning last time they did this in my location, north side/STT.
You'd think they'd place a siren at the Dorothea Fire station for the north side, the fire station on the west end and use Fort Christian in town instead of the Enid Baa Library in town!

I heard it deafeningly loud and clear on the North side where I live. Did you ever let them know you didn't hear anything as they specifically asked residents to do? There's a reason for the testing, not the least of which is determining any areas not covered ..
Yes. I did.
Yes. I did.
What did they say?
They'd "look into it."
I don't remember the conversation verbatim since this was months ago.
What else?
I'm simply curious and have no other question. Hopefully you'll hear the next round.
I was referring to "what else" would one expect them to say.
The first time they tested, I was at my home in Hermon Hill and heard it loud and clear.
The second time, I was living at the top of La Grande Princesse Hill high above Gas City and was home with all sliders open and did NOT hear a thing.
