Ms. Doty has been a blessing for our Virgin Islands, kudos & kudos to her!

However, referring to STX, inviting the statesiders down here equates to inviting someone to stay in a teenagers bedroom, who is so "teenage" he's been moved into the garage...

Try this for yourself: drive from the pier in F'sted towards any landmark destination, whether it's Whim or Pt Udall. Once you get a few blocks past the pier, you are shocked at the lack of care for buildings and pride in cleanliness. Hmmm...maybe it's just a bad spot you think to yourself...

Well, you continue along regaining confidence that you have picked a beautiful place to visit...until you get to the corner! There are a multitude of junked cars in a lot on your right, there's a PILE of beer bottles stashed around telephone poles and grassy spots that have sprung up in the concrete, and then you see a man peeing on a wall of a store! And all of this is adjacent to the police department. Wow, culture shock...okay, you think, just another bad spot...

So, you are headed to Whim, and you see two "graveyards" along the road: the one on the left is obviously for styrofoam, and the one on the right for beer bottles. hmmm...most of the people I know use trash cans you think to yourself...oh well...just another bad spot...

So, you continue on and pass some fishermen on the side of the road. It's hard to pay attention to the fish they caught because you just can't believe the amount of trash accumulated around them...how could anyone buy fish from such a dirty place? yuk...

Now you are at Whim, and it is beautiful! Just like the pictures! Now you feel okay to touch something and breathe as there are no distractions of filth in sight.

"Anyone want to go buy some rum?" The taxi driver takes you to Plaza West...Once again you witness such levels of filth and general lack of pride when you pass by another gas station...the one on the left right before Plaza. There is SO MUCH trash all around the store and in the parking lot, and then yet you get to witness another man peeing on the side of the building! Thank god the doors are automatic at Plaza...you don't have to push them open and wonder who was doing what before they opened it...

What is up with our island and the community responsibility? There have been many island clean-ups, and it's usually done by the people who are not the litter culprits. What is up with VIWMA? Don't they see the blatant filth that they COULD hold business owners responsible for? STX has 8, yes 8, litter enforcement officers plus a new police officer to issue citations. What are they doing? What about the Island Administrator and his responsibility to remove junked vehicles? Doesn't he realize it's going to take a more than one
man with one truck to get the job done? Why are there no trashcans at all the bus stops?

I'd like to send a big thanks for Ms. Nicholson-Doty for all that she portrays our island to be. Wouldn't it be nice to do the same for other departments who clearly are responsible yet not effective?

...just a rant...whew

If a list of numbers were posted here, would anyone like to make the continuous calls to receive some positive action from departments like VIWMA, Administrator, DOH?

Why don't you go ahead and get started with those calls?

I've been calling for a year and a half...and will continue to do so...

Remember Red Brick a year ago? Fighting dogs & cocks, junked cars with bullet holes, a cache of wallets and purses belonging to statesiders, drug bags and used condoms. Well, it's nice and clean now, as many, many people called and demanded action.

Getting our government to perform their jobs seems to have a better result if there is a troop to answer...

I have been watching the STX video since it's been up.
Makes me want to cry when I look out the window at all the dead foliage from frost last night... Oh well we will get back to the island in due time.
I think the production company did a beautiful job! I have it in my Pocket PC and show it when people ask why the heck do I want to leave a nice home in Cincinnati and go live on an old boat w/o all the modern convinces..

Wish every thing worked that well on the rocks .... of course if it did everyone would want to live on STX and I would be priced out of the market.
