Visitors with Dietary Restrictions

We're having visitors for a week next month, one is vegetarian (no meat, poultry or seafood) and the other is allergic to gluten/wheat (no flour i.e. bread, pasta, sauces made with flour, breading/batter, beer etc.) I know this is a tall order but they enjoy eating out and I would appreciate any suggestions where we can take them to eat on STT and have both of their dietary restrictions accommodated.

dntw8up: I think you'll find that if you have a personal preference concerning where you'd like to take them for dinner and give the restaurant advance notice, most will be accomodating if they can and, if they're unable to be, will let you know.

As a restaurant owner, I've managed with no advance notice to cater to those with exactly the same dietary preferences/restrictions as your friends but advance notice is enormously helpful and gives the chef an opportunity to be creative in advance rather than scrambling at the last minute.

It's not really a tall order at all, jut pick where you might want to go, ask and, particularly where larger restaurants are concerned, there may be much already listed on the menu which fit the bill of fare!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, STT Resident. I have never paid much attention to local menus in this context and I think a few phone calls will alleviate my concerns.

There are quite a lot of vegetarians on STX... not sure about STT.... but to accommodate them, most of the restaurants on STX have some vegetarian choices on the menu. Many of those choices would also be low gluten for your other guest. There are lots of stir fry vegetables and that sort of thing. Just have them hold the rice if there was some!

Personally I'd hate it if I couldn't eat meat, poultry, fish, and pasta. Yikes.
