Hey everyone
I was jus wondering exactly what I should do when I arrive to the island. My whole goal for this week vacation is too relax but more importantly find a job. I plan on going around st Thomas to see what kind of jobs I could possibly get. Halfway through I'll try and make it to st croix since I think that would be the ideal place for me. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know

I don't think one week is enough time to do everything you want, which is: Vacation and relax, and do two PMVs (STT and STX), including a job search.

Traveling between STT and STX is somwhat expensive, and not a casual affair (compared to traveling between STT and STJ).

Scott: What sort of job are you seeking? If you are in the hospitality industry, you will find a number of places closed because you are coming at the height of hurricane season. In a week, you would maybe be able to drive around each island and see if it has the vibe you want. I agree with Bob, relaxing and looking for work are not compatible activities.

I might not be able to get to stx on this trip but that's ok. I was just trying to see what it's like on stt and try and get some type of employment. If relaxing comes in the way then I'll just worry about getting a job because that it more important to me than relaxing. If everything goes well than I'll have everyday to relax ha. I will still probly move in early nov. If possible and I have money saved and a car paid for though I'll prbly have it shipped there not sure how much that'll be but I'll get that info later. I just can't wait to go. I thought my best bet would be to find some work at a resort or restaurant at first any tips of how anyone else thinks I should play this out you all know more since you've been living there for however long. as far as change and not knowing anyone that is not a problem since I moved from Pennsylvania to Florida last year leaving my family. I really hope everything works out because just from the pics and others stories of usvi I really know I can live there the rest of my life. The best situation I could have happen is to go there and meet someone that won't mind if I'd stay with them for awhile and help out with any bills needed but I'll just have to wait till I get there to find out. Thanks for helping me with your advice

I don't think you will be able to secure a job while you are here for a week's vacation. If the employer needs help, he need it NOW. Unlikely he'd be willing to hold a position until/if you return. You can see what types of jobs are available and make some contacts for when you return.

yea thats true, i guess my goal is to see what things are like for when i do return in nov. i just hope that everything eventually works out because i know id love to live there, do people that already live in the usvi not like it when others are trying to move there, like there invading there space, i know that when people vacation there they might abuse certain things depending on the person of course because for just assuming thats the kind of vibe i sometimes feel. maybe im just talking outta sort but i dont know. thanks for all the posts

Living here is different than living in the states. We try to emphasize that difference. Sometime we may sound negative, but that is mostly because so many folks wanting/planning to move here have palm trees in their eyes that block the real view of the islands.

...and I don't mind people moving here, but I get tired of bartenders. 😉 There are lots of other jobs that need to be filled- nurses and teachers and librarians...

yea i understand what you mean, i kinda figured thats what people thought and no one really sounded negative maybe just letting others know that theres still a 5day work week wherever you are....and that just by moving to usvi doesnt mean your on vacation the whole time. thats exactly how i am my only reason i want to is because im young and havnt really established anything yet and am not tied down to anyone or anything so why not. but i get where your coming from, i just cant wait to get there and explore i think it'll be good for me and if i can make it work than good for me. i would like to go to the university eventually and see what they have to offer. i think that would be fun to try. we will see but thanks for talking and giving me some feedback i appreciate it
