Visiting.
Hello all, I have been in touch with Alexandra for some time now, Finally get to meet this busy lady.
The wife and I will arrive on island March 4th, we will probably be staying around the North Shore somewhere, Not much of a PMV, Just getting the feel for the the local action, mainly the local bars, I may have to for go the diving this trip.
I would just like to meet locals and local bar owners, since a bar on STX seems to be the path forward, Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. See you soon I will be the heavily tattooed extra muscular, size skinny guy, that is way to white.
liquor is dirt cheap don't get drunk, and if you do please drive on the left, you might run into lots of trouble. good luck
Been there done that, I have visited ST Croix before, That is why we are returning, St Thomas is way to busy and St John is way to small and expensive. I lived on St John some years ago. I will stick with beer it hurts less the morning after.
I am just looking for some good place's to hang out at, Thanks for the advice and we will be bringing Rum back with us for sure.
The best people to dive with is N2Blue. Their boat is in Fsted as is one of their shops. Their other shop is in LaValle on the way to Cane Bay. Really nice people. You dive with the owners.
Thanks Terry, I believe we dove with Blue water in Cstead last time, they shot us a really good video.
I may forgo the diving this time.
I am drop dead serious about opening a bar within 1.5 years, That seems to be one of two things man has been selling since we have been in existence, SEX which we cant sell and booze being the other.
I think we may just hang out. If I open one there it will focus on live rockin music good reasonable food and the best service a customer can have.
If an employee cant provide quality service to the customer guess what, Their fired. I spend a lot of time in the Bars here and they all lack service.
Just want to hang out, maybe sing some, drink some eat to much and try to take some of this winter whiteness off of my skin. Thanks again
Better bone up on labor laws. It can be tricky firing people.
Chockman,
Best service, quality service? On the islands fast food service is slow! You may have to " re-think " why people come back again, and again, and again, and again!
haha Trade and lizard just said it all,and you'll soon find out that coconut rum goes to the highest bidder because"it's on the container and has'nt been unloaded yet",fresh mint for mohito's good luck on that one unless you grow your own, webster carries a gun, buying ice by the bag from some guy in a truck is interesting for awhile, cans of off add up after awhile and all the plastic and styrofoam you're going to be using make the beach dirty,on the plus side we have no dram shop laws here so you can't get sued for over serving.
Trade, Lizard and Trw, Thanks for all of the input, I still have much to learn. Maybe firing is harsh sometimes it has to be done though, If I could clean house for the Federal Gov, I work for we might get more work done instead of playing the blame game all the time.
I am very easy to work with but at the same time firm, One of the first things I would ask of my employees is, You have lived here ? what seems to work and does not work ? Good employees can make or break you, I believe in taking care of them as long as they are taking care of my business. I figure I will be busting my ass for a minimum of two years before I let anyone have a part of running my life.
As far as service is concerned, I don't mean to imply fast food, I don't mean you will wait all day for it, but when it arrives it will be correct and you will want to come back for more, "service" means to imply, your order turned into the kitchen properly, your check as you request it, individual checks, or put all on one tab.
I run into it here all the time, breaking down a tab trying to explain what you had and what everyone else at your table had,and trying to figure out how much money you owe. Put as many people on a tab as you like, but at least ask the customer up front, don't assume they just want to lump everything together.
I am an old school mentality, you take care of me I will take care of you.
I understand things can be slow on island, but I'M tired of hauling ass around here and spinning my wheels, I have only been to St X one time, We then went to St Thomas while we were there, all I could do was try to leave early or go back to St X. A different pace is not always bad, As long as it is not on St Thomas.
Yes I have much to learn and I hope to meet some of you good people while We are on island, My intention this trip is more on the education side of things and not the vacation, I'm one of those who can have a good time learning. This web site has been great, there are so many of you people willing to tell what Island life is like, do this don't do that, It has been a good thing finding this site last year, Thanks again for all of the info, Hope to meet some of you while we are visiting, Has any one ever had a green chili cheese Burger ? .
You better learn HOW to fire or you're going to be paying through the nose. Yes, I've had a green chili cheesburger.
Hi Trade, I just looked up the reasons for wrongful discharge governing the VI, Great info to have as an employer. I would not want to fire anyone, But if they were hurting my business they would have to straighten out or go seek employment elsewhere, Please keep all of the info coming my way, This is the kind of stuff I need to evaluate. Thanks again to all of you.
Remember people that you dont have to fire anyone if they quit. People have to have money to live so you just cut there hours and bang. People will not work long it they aint making no money. I hate to say that but its the safest way to do anything. Just a thought
also most wait staff are "at will" employees and not subject to the same regulations as employees of other types of businesses. It's pretty rare for more than a few long-term employees to be on the books as full fledged employees at restaurants and bars.
