VI Sleep Number Bed Owners
Been thinking of getting a Sleep Number Bed.
For those of you that own one and live here, have you had any problems with it regarding our climate? If you have one is your home 100 per cent air conditioned? Mechanics ok? Does the Wapa power outages effect the overall system?
Would enjoy hearing your thoughts regarding owning one here in the islands.
Thank you.
Hi Tippi,
I don't have the sleep number. When I was researching I ran across the SAT bed. SAT stands for self adjusting technology. Basically what that means is you don't adjust the number, the bed adjusts to your weight, position, etc. No mechanics or electrical involved.
I could not convince my husband. He wanted an extra, extra firm bed, so we actually got separate XL twin mattresses and put them together as a king. Oscars had the box springs and twin mattress in the exact size (height) we needed to match my SAT bed. My husband now wishes he had given in. He loves my SAT bed. I do too.
Google SAT bed, and you will find it, I'm sure.
BTW, if you do go with the sleep number, QVC is a good place to shop for it. They will deliver here.
Juanita,
Thanks for the heads up on the SAT bed, will read the reviews. We are extremely concerned about high humidity causing mold. Have read the reviews of mold growing in the air chambers.
It's an investment, then to have a problem with mold wouldn't be fun to say the least. The upside is a better nights rest and ah the no back pain.
Off to look at SAT reviews.
Thank you,
Tippi
We have a sleep number and LOVE IT 🙂
No problems (touch wood) so far but we do sleep with a/c but I don't know if that makes a difference or not. And one of the best things about buying - shipping was under $100 if you can believe that - and it was here via UPS in 3 days.

Where did you buy yours?
We bought two SN from QVC,,,and they shipped UPS for I think $55. Arrived on island really fast, but it took the UPS guy a week to deliver them, because it was "so far". Bought them in 2007, no problems to date. We did, however, get two different lower-end models, especially as compared to the current models, as ours do not have the memory foam, just regular foam. I bought memory-foam pads and put them on top...works fine thus far.
We bought a Sleep Number bed last year and just LOVE it. It took me three nights, though, before I got used to it. My back had hurt for a couple of years on our old mattress, but after three nights on the S.N. mattress I noticed no back pain! I did research on it online, too, and saw the problems with mold-- but that was on the earlier mattresses, or so they say... The person we bought it from told us to open it up every so often to air it out which is easy to do since it's so light.
One thing that you might want to think about if you're going to be sleeping with no airconditioning is investing in the mattress pad made for people who get hot while trying to sleep. I'm very hot natured and so we bought it. I don't know what it's made from, but it's sooo nice and cool!! I think I'd buy one for a normal mattress if I ever have to get rid of my Sleep Number--- heaven forbid!
I've had one since 1997. It was called "select comfort" then.
We have repalced the air pump once and the mattress chambers once. No A/C in our house. No mold problems.
We also have one in a rental unit. 5 years and no problems.
It is the best mattress I've slept on.

We bought ours from a Sleep Number store in Kansas City when I was back for a visit

Thanks everyone for all your input.
It helps to get good advice before the final decision.
I have to say it is the best thing we have purchased in a long, long, long time - degenerative disk disease in my back and neck and it has helped sooooo much
