Is anyone in the VI National Guard? My husband will need to switch from Mass to VI if/when we move down. Any helpful hints. He is currently stationed in Iraq. Thanks!

I spoke with a member of the Guard at the Ag Fair. The VI units are combat service & support. The only two MOS's I can remember were water purification and MP's. When I mentioned I carried the MOS of 11B50, she told me in no uncertain terms they did not need any E-8's or Infantry types.

Hello shm,

I am currently in the Air National Guard in Ohio, and am moving to STX. If you need the web site for the VIANG send me a PM and I will get it to you. It occasionally list job openings. Is he in the Army or Air Guard? My best to you and your husband for your support and love for this country. You are in my prayer that he gets back to you soon!

shm: I guess my response to this post won't be in the least bit helpful but the post itself just regurgitates a problem I've had for a few years now where the VING is concerned. To qualify, it's not a problem with the VING but with the Bush administration's deployment of National Guardsmen period.

Bereft of a proper basic education, many Virgin Islanders enlisted many years ago in order to learn a trade so that they could make a living here. They not only learned a trade but went to many corners of both the United States and the world to help out when natural disasters required their call-up and they responded with alacrity. They had no idea that they would be pulled into active war zones.

Since 9/11 1he National Guard troops statewide and in the U.S. territories have been called upon to go into war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, ostensibly to help rebuild. There really is no question at this point that this Bush"shock and awe" program was and continues to be a total disaster.

Virgin Islands residents are disallowed from voting in United States elections, ergo they weren't able to vote for Dubbya or anyone else. And returning VING personnel from both Iraq and Afghanistan are brainwashed here, as they obviously are on the mainland also, with the "don't tell anyone, we're a TEAM" mentality, They won't talk to reporters, period but I can tell you from first-hand experience that they are really frustrated.

But enough! Your National Guard husband is currently posted in Iraq and may God bless him and ensure his safe return. Cheers, dear!

Thanks for the replies. My husband is in the Army national Guard. He will be promoted to E6 soon and is an engineering unit currently doing mp/inteligence work in Iraq. Thank you for the support. He has talked with a recruiter already and before he was deployed he was a full time recuirter with the army guard. We routinely check the job listings board for the VING. If we do not move down right away he will stay on in the states and train soldiers who will be heading overseas. He is doing well but we are looking forward to seeing each other again. We came down to STJ on his two week leave and renewed our vows at Trunk bay on Valentines Day. We were even written up in the news the next day! Hope all works well!
