Kyle: Your post cracked me up! If you are afraid of "wasting time", this may not be the place for you! You definitely should come down for a visit and see if the pace of life is for you! BTW, I don't know of any "head hunter" type organization...

Life is ..........life is NOT a waste of time. Sorry you're in such a rush. No head hunters that I've heard of here........not sure what they would do exactly, especially now since the islands are losing EDC companies...thanks to President Bush!

Kyle,
I believe I have seen an Advertisement for a company on Island that specializes in placing EDC people. As for Island Pauls comment, that is a lot of hype at this point. I am here because of an EDC company and that company is not going anywhere. From what I understand the bill passed through Congress simply got rid of the loop holes that some were exploiting to set up ghost corporations in the U.S.V.I. for tax advantages. Some of those companies were not hiring anybody anyway. Island Paul you might also want to read up on the actual Bill. It passed the House 280-141. Democrats who opposed the Bill opposed it because in their view it still allowed far too many loop holes for U.S. businesses to move off shore for tax breaks and take jobs with them, i.e. outsourcing. The EDC is exactly what Kerry will fight if elected.

USVI is a US Territory and NOT India or a foreign country. I understand the need for jobs in the US as I lost mine as a direct result of outsourcing out of the US.

I am glad to read that your opinion is that EDC companies will stay put. That seems to be at odds with what I've read in local newspapers.

Eric, do you remeber what the name of the Company in the advertisement was, as I have not been able to find anything online. Thanks,
Patrick

Hello,

Eric was it AllTemp Services on St. Croix? I did a search and found this ad for them:

Attention Virgin Islanders
If you are a Virgin Islander with work experience and/or a college level education who is interested in returning home; register with us to apply your skills to one of the many EDC firms that have relocated to St Croix or local businesses. (340)713-0688

Islander,
That could be it. I thought I remembered seeing a Husband/Wife team that was advertising EDC placement on one of the local T.V. channels.

I saw something in the VI daily news pet section for EDCStaffing.com.

Don't know who these folks are, and website doesn't look entirely built out yet.

John Alvarado, who is in the pet section photo with Dalia, is running EDCstaffing.com. Not sure if they are doing it together.
Don't know if they are fully functional yet, but I shall inquire for you and respond by email if I have some good news.

One minor glitch...EDC companies usually are looking for bonfide VI residents of at least a year's residency. I suspect that they are probably putting new hiring on a slow track right now.

Hahaha.... man how the miscommunication of 7 words effects a post!

I have visited the islands and love the pace of life down there. What I meant, but poorly conveyed, was that when I move this Monday I am not coming to sit on the beach for a month or two and then look for work. I'm coming to live, not to go on vacation. Living costs money, and while I don't necessarily like to "work", I like to live... Therefore I was just hoping to get a headstart on things. And thanks as always for the replies. I'm sure that after a year or two of being on island I'll look back at this post myself and get a good laugh out of it.

I have a BA in Criminal Justice and would like to use that however I have heard mixed things about the probability of being able to find employment in these fields on island. Even so this will be where I look first.

Thanks again everyone.
