VI drivers licenses
Just a warning to all future licence. applicants. They are becoming aware of the recent influx in new applicants not having any out of state license to turn in. If your trying to get another license, for any reason, while having an additional license from stateside and did not turn it in--be careful!!!!
I got nabbed and revoked here.. Now I can't drive here or in any US state, they aren't hookup to the stateside computer system as of yet. I don't know how they did it, but they did.
I was told I lied on my application when I said I did not have a valid drivers license from any other state, beside my license was pulled in FL for points violation.
Just as a point of clarification. When I applied here my license WAS NOT revoked in FL, but I knew it was going to be for the points. I had no problem with my VI license in the states and I had been stopped in FL with it and nothing popped up. MY only thought is someone notified FL who knew I had a VI license and FL notified VI I was suspended, then VI revoked me, this just happened last week.
Are you sure then that they haven't recently been hooked up with the States? Or maybe there's a database that they do check for revoked licenses? Sounds a little efficient to me. 🙂
Since 911 the Feds have been interested in establishing a national ID card. For privacy purposes there has been great resistance to this.
To accomplish this goal the Feds have pushed all the States and Territories to improve the standards for issuing drivers licenses and to standardize the information and appearance of licenses. That is why all States and the VI now require you to show your SS card to get a license along with other collaborating ID.
With the standardized information it is now much easier to check for duplicate licenses and bogus ID.

I do not if you ever heard of this system in the states to get a license,I think it's called a 10 point system. Each piece of ID is given a value, e.g. birth certificate 4 points, social 3 points, military ID 4 points, credit card 2 points, from what I've heard most states are now using this method, bottom line you have to have at least 10 valid points of ID to get a license--they are cracking down your right--even though I was nabbed--I think it is better.
Today's bad news my license was suspended another year for having two licenses which I did for two over lapping months.
The FL DMV said even if it was a day I had TWO licenses they could suspend me further, so if your going to get a VI license turn in your out of state license!!!!!!
Obviously I was up to something--DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE!!!!
I don't think they are linked because when I moved to STT in 2003, I turned in my Ohio licence in order to get a VI licence. Then when I moved back to Ohio from STT in September 2006, I applied for an Ohio licence after 90 days living there in December. At the Ohio DMV, since I had a licence with them before, they pulled my info up in the computer and my Ohio licence status was still "valid"
It seems that The VI Never reported my original Ohio licence as "void" as it should have been. All I had to do was pay for a replacement Ohio licence. So now I have two valid licences.
In July 2006 the VI started issuing driver's license using a new system and in a new format to meet Federal standards. I would not count on what happened in 2003 repeating itself now.

How long can I drive a car in VI with a valid Canadian driver's license?
90 days.
