This is good one for you locals, I found a job posting in http://www.vibusinesslink.com/ I am a great fit for this job. But when I applied I was emailed back telling me I can not apply for this job because I am not registered with the VI Dept. of labor. more or less "She explained"; VI Dept. prefers you to show up in person to register, calling by phone in almost impossible also I have be register with both STX and STT dept(s) when looking for a job posting.
This is what I have done so for; I hit the VI Dept's Web site http://www.vidol.gov/ "hardly anything there helped" so I emailed them for "questions and commits" jvvelez@vidol.gov through the web master? It's been two days no one answers the phone and no email replies. the contact page is http://www.vidol.gov/OP/Contact.htm
Can any one help on what to do next?????????

TWo days? Welcome to island time, my friend. Two days is a blink of an eye in Stateside life.

Case in point, it took me 5 months for VITELCO (now, Innovative Telephone) to come and flip the switch on the pole 25 feet from my house to turn on my phone. When the lineman actually got there to do it, it took a whopping minute and a half to get it working.

Hang in there, and keep emailing and keep calling.

Need to be here to get a job through the Labor Dept.

Now that's what is strange to me, I feel before moving, to find a job, then go. The "in person to register" is redundant. I concur if a person was applying for unemployment. I think it's a means of proctoring the employers and/ or regulating the work force. It's depressing to the point of just giving up on the idea. NOT!

Michigander: I think the VI Department of Labor is set up to help Virgin Islanders, so of course they would be on island! 😉
