VI ALERT is being replaced
Issued By: VITEMA
Affected Jurisdictions: Virgin Islands
Headline: Sign Up for "Alert VI," the NEW Emergency Notification System for the U.S. Virgin Islands
The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA) will be replacing VI-Alert, its current emergency notification system, and transitioning to a NEW emergency notification system for the U.S. Virgin Islands, Alert VI, on Friday May 11, 2018. VI-Alert will no longer be used after May 31, 2018.
VITEMA encourages all residents to begin signing up for Alert VI, the NEW mass notification system. The registration is free. Alert VI will provide VITEMA and partnering agencies the capability to keep residents, and visitors safe and informed with quick and reliable emergency notifications and public service announcements.
What can you receive by signing up? weather alerts, public safety and service disruption alerts and more. Live in one area but work in another? You can add up to five location addresses that you would like to receive alerts for such as home, work, school and extended family addresses. Sign up to receive messages via text, email, cellphone, landline, Voice Over Internet Provider (VoIP) and hearing-impaired devices. Download the free Everbridge Public Safety app from Apple or Android stores and receive your alerts on the app as well as other public messages around the US in the event you’re traveling.
Virgin Island residents can begin signing up by pasting the following link in their browser https://member.everbridge.net/index/892807736729008#/login or click Alert VI.
"As the sole governmental Agency responsible for All-Hazards response, we have a commitment to ensure public safety, community awareness and emergency response. To uphold this commitment, when critical information and public service announcements arise, we need to reach our residents and visitors as quickly and reliably as possible," said VITEMA Director, Mona L. Barnes.
The way the current system is being used borders on abusive.
But...its better than nothing I guess.
