Vehicle Warranty Work STT?
Thanks to all that offered advice relative to my last post.
Again, we are 2 years in to a 5 year moving plan to the USVIs. We are going to buy at least one 'island car' to bring down with us. I plan to buy a new vehicle within the next 2 - 10 months, so this will be one that I bring. I'm still deciding on the perfect small/mid-size SUV.
Are there any automotive businesses on STT that do warranty work?
If so, this could weigh heavily on my decision since it's a possibility that we may be ready to move sooner, while the vehicle is still under warranty.
I thought I saw a car dealership while in STT a few years back, but my husband thinks it was another island -- the Dominican, I think. ? Could have been a rum induced hallucination as well.
Thanks again for your help!
Jayne
Yes, there are dealerships here (Chevy, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, etc.)...you can peruse the different manufacturers in the Yellow Pages at www.viphonebook.com.
As far as buying a vehicle up there and shipping it down, I always recommend that you sell your vehicles up in the States and buy one on island. There are plenty of vehicles on these islands as it is, and you may find that owning a 'nice' vehicle here in the islands is not as much of a priority as it is in the States, so you might end up buying a vehicle for less here than you sold yours for up there...thereby putting a few extra bucks in your pocket that you could put into more important things. Just my opinion, of course.
Thanks Marty!
I feel like a dork! I had no idea that all those dealerships were on STT. We always rent a Jeep at Budget in the airport and drive straight to Red Hook to head for STJ on our trips. We've not explored STT nearly as well as STJ or some of the BVIs -- have only driven around CA and Havensight. We will be doing two PMVs, so we'll be working on our STT knowledge then.
I kept doing google searches to try to find dealerships, but couldn't find anything except a complaint about a place called Metro.
My STJ phone book was also not much help. I should have remembered the viphonebook.com link that I've read many times on this forum. I was having a Jayne moment - as my husband would say.
Now that I see all the dealerships, I realize I'e been totally overthinking/overpreparing relative to this issue! I can bring one or I'll find something to drive when I get there. It's not such a big hairy deal!
Thanks a bunch!

Jayne: Taxi van from the airport to the ferry dock is frequently the entire St Thomas experience for many visitors, so don't feel bad!! One thing is that we are a few steps behind the states technologically. There are many places that do not have websites, don't have e-mail, etc. Even when you live here, it is frequently easier to drive over to a place and talk to them in person rather than trying to phone.
Metro Motors is the Ford dealership and very nice people.
