Vegan Foods/Restaurants On St Thomas
Hi All,
My daughter and son-in-law are coming for a visit next week. They are both vegan, which I have next-to-no experience with. Can anyone recommend where we can eat out and/or shop?
Thanks.
Health food store in end building next to Pueblo by Yacht Haven has supplies/ down from old IRB.
Can't respond to questions about the restaurants tho. Sorry. I know there are some but can't think of any off hand.
Possibly check the phone book which has a section for various restaurants and their menu selections or tell them they must cook for you!
This is a useful restaurant guide:

and all the supermarkets carry a selection of vegan foods, particularly Plaza Extra in the Tutu Park Mall.
I posted most of the vegan restaurants on http://www.happycow.net. The only one that's missing that I know of is Love Livin at Pilgrim's Terrace and Tillett Gardens. Veggie Plus added another location near the hospital.
All are casual restaurants.

Sorry, this made me laugh. Maybe because I never heard of a FORMAL Veggie restuarant.
Cruzaniron, you need to get to a big city more often! Zen Palate is a formal, vegan restaurant in New York. Love that place!
Hi CruzanIron,
I tried every search word I could think of on HappyCow, and still no results for St Thomas. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
Veggie Plus might not be on the list, because it's not totally vegetarian. Happycow asks too many questions for places that also serve meat, so I gave up on trying to list them. They have a steam table with Caribbean food and a steam table with vegetarian food.
The Asian restaurants also have vegan dishes.
Do Ital carts count? Decent food from the little rasta-painted shack (not sure of the name) on the south side of the stadium in Hospital Ground...
Yes, those can be posted, but I'm not sure that area is tourist friendly so I skipped it. I also tasted something from there and didn't like it, so I haven't been back.
Please feel free to add it.
Rootsie's has a truck in Bovoni near the race track.
Yes, I know about Rootsie,'s food truck, but I got the impression from them that they would be opening their original restaurant at some point so I won't post them because the current truck isn't tourist friendly.
Also, a vegan friend prefers a menu with fewer fried food options.
I give tours showing people where all the vegetarian places (including non tourist friendly places) are if anyone is interested. You drive and I tell you the route. No charge. I think it takes about an hour.
Sneak a little bacon into their veggies, it will taste so good they will forget all about being vegan.

What do you mean "tourist friendly." I didnt know a food truck could make a tourist blush.
Has a place for people to sit down.

I doon't know, but if they were serving in the nude, it might make me blush a little and sure make me eat a lot more than I should:) I do love dinner and a show.
I'm at the Middle Eastern restaurant, Hubbly Bubbly, across from Pueblo now. Have been craving FRESH FROM D.C. SCRATCH falafel for a while, and theirs HIT the spot. I don't like the ones from the mix in the box.
So happy!
I would think that any restaurant would have something to offer. Just ask if you don't see it on the menu.
