Utility Cost
I will be relocating to STX later this Fall and in doing my research I am looking for information on utility cost for a one or two bed room place.
Impossible to answer as it depends how much electricity you use. Current rate is 32.1c/kWh. If you have A/C your usage will be far greater than if you live where ceiling fans suffice; if you use an electric dryer versus line-drying; electric stove versus gas stove, etc, etc. When you find a place which interests you then ask the landlord for estimates but it's a huge variable which can't be answered generally.
I have 2 people in a one bedroom apt. They use the A/C (bedroom only) quite a bit. Their electric for the past month is approx. $220. I won't know exactly until the bill arrives next week. Their water bill runs about $90 a month for 1800 gallons. That's a lot!! Water rates will vary according to where you rent. Sometimes it's included, sometimes it comes from WAPA, and sometimes the landlord provides the water and charges. That's what I do @ .05 per gallon.
I have a single man in an identical unit, doesn't use A/C, and his will be approx. $85. His last water bill was about $35.
It will vary some, but look at your current electric bill and multiply your kwh usage by .33. That is how much your bill would be if you used the same here. Of course, the circumstances are different...may use more, may use less than you do now.
I have seen it over and over again. We tell newbie tenants to be cautious about their usage, rates are HIGH here, but invariably they are shocked when they get their first bill.
Hope this helps.
the last electric bill i remember seeing for us was about 140.00 no air conditioner, no dryer or dishwasher. we are 2 people in a 3 bedroom. we do have ceiling fans, two tv's a computer. we are all electric.
Monthly:
Cable or satellite TV $60 and up
Internet - $50 and up
Landline about $30
cell phone - varies with plan and usage
water - often free sometimes charged - buying bottle water can be expensive if you don't drink the cistern water
electric - as discussed above - varies greatly with size, location and use of A/C, stove, dryer, water heater, pool pump etc.
the landlord should be able to provide you with recent history of bills and having your own unit on a separate meter is something to look for when renting.
Sunshine, breezes and rainwater $0
I appreciate the information as I work on my budget.
