utilities-help...
my family is moving to STT; i cannot find the contact info for the water, trash, sewer, electric, etc. could someone point in their location? gotta get the final details in order. you guys are awesome! cant wait to join you all......have an awesome weekend!
good afternoon, thx so much juanita! one thing, what about gas? do all homes on STT need/have gas hookups?
I would ask the owner (or previous owner) of the house as to which utilities you'll need, and the contact info for each one.
Gas: You may or may not need gas. Your house might be all electric. If you need gas, it's probably easier to go with whomever delivered it in the past. Sometimes a new company is picky about delivering to a tank whose ownership cannot be proven.
Water: City water service is available in some areas, whereas other areas use cistern water. If you need it delivered, there are various trucking companies to choose from.
Telephone, landline: Innovative is 779-9999
Telephone, cell: There are various carriers to choose from.
Cable TV: Innovative is 779-9999, or there may be other cable providers, or you may already have a satellite setup.
Internet: There are several choices among cable, wi-fi, satellite
Sewer: I don't know what dept. that is. I think most houses have a septic field.
Garbage: Bring it to the dump, or to a container park, or contract privately for weekly or semi-weekly pick-up. Ask your neighbors who they use.
Quite a few people use propane gas for cooking. If you will have a gas stove, then you need to set up something with a private company like Antilles Gas. There may be others, but Antilles is the only one that comes to mind.
Are you renting or buying? Have you already found a place? If so, where on island? The services you need will vary greatly with the actual house. You may have a cistern (probably will) and not need to arrange water, or you may need to have it trucked in if we don't get enough rain. You may have a septic (probably will) and not need sewage. City water and sewage are only available in limited areas. And you may just take your own garbage to the nearest public dumpster (a lot of people do that). Some people hire a "guy with a pick up truck" or actually use a legit garbage company.
