USVI Board of Nursing Licensure

I am hoping someone reading this has had some experience with the USVI government to obtain a business license or professional license. I am under a deadline to get this accomplished by 4/8/2013 when I must report for work with my USVI nursing license in hand.

Let me begin by saying that I sent every required form and notarized document with a money order for payment and I followed the instructions to the letter.

The staff is saying that I did not send two important documents( a copy of one of my US licenses and a receipt for license verification through Nursys) and I know that I did because I made a copy of everything that I sent to them. Is it typical for documents to be lost or misfiled?

If I call they put me on hold and never pick the phone up again.

I understand that they probably have limited resources and that they conduct business very differently. I do want to show respect and

I have been very patient and polite and upbeat. Doesn't seem to matter. Should I just go do this in person?

I would. I am not on island. But that seems to be the recurring theme. In any case fax the documents everyday if need be. And call to see if received.

Yes sadly it is common for documents to be lost or misfiled. I have dealt with theVI Bon many times over the years... Rule one is that it is always your fault! It's best to just keep your cool as you have been doing.. If you are on STT and can go in person that would be optimal.. If not always make sure you have at the least some form of tracking on whatever you send and always make copies for your own file. If you dont have copies of the missing documents i would just try to replace them asap. Many tomes the BON will not accept faxed copies. It will all work out and most employers on the island have a very good understanding of the difficulties you are experiencing! Welcome to the medical community... You will face many challenges like this one but you are sorely needed and will be very much appreciated. Also know that this is Easter week in the VI and many government offices will be closed or very lightly staffed by the end of the week. Hang in there and good luck!

With many offices here, especially government, it's best to speak live to somebody, either face-to-face or by phone. Phone messages, emails, faxes and mail are often ignored, lost or otherwise mishandled.

Vermont. But it sure looks like Alaska in that photo. And it sure feels like it here today.

Thank you for that and especially the tip about the holiday week. I was ready to snap on Friday just thinking about much time and money I have invested so far in this license.

I will do my best to adjust my expectations and I am sure it will be worth being able to work and live in such a beautiful place.
