Urologist urgently needed
Hi everyone
We are in need of a Urologist probably on STT as I do not see one listed on STJ. Does anyone have any recommendations - I see two listed for STT a Dr Stephen Okiye in the Paragon Medical Building and Dr Franklin of the VI Urologic Center (Havensight) - does anyone have any experience with either one.
Thanks so much
Pia
Dr. Franklin.
my boyfriend went to dr franklin on st croix, same one as on st thomas, we were told it would be about 300 bucks and it was almost 600. also had an early am appointment and did not get to see him until about 3;30 or later, there were streams of people in the office. too crowded and the guy only spent about 10 inutes with him. so not worth the time.
speedy: And the alternative????
second opinion from someone else
Is there a "someone else" on St Croix?
We definitely do not have a perfect health care system in the VI. For one thing, there is little competition. There is a doctor here on St Thomas who used to START seeing appointments at 7 pm or so and many folks didn't see the doctor until one or two a.m. When you asked them "Why?" they would say that they didn't have a choice. Dr Franklin is an excellent physician. I am sorry about the long wait.
Thank you EE - we are calling Dr Franklin now.

Dr. Franklin is, hands down, the best Urologist here. I sell medical equipment and supplies and he is one of my clients...the long wait is because everyone wants to see him...on BOTH islands. He's a very busy man, due to his very exceptional skills. He does it all...from removing prostrates in surgery, to prescribing meds for that "little itch"....he may be expensive, but, here in the islands, you really do get what you pay for...
OK, just to be clear it's not a "little itch" we need him for :@) (you made me laugh out loud for that one :-))
Thanks everyone

would love for you to report back on your visit with dr. franklin
One should have a First Opinion before one gets a Second Opinion or maybe one should seek a different Doctor. I've been to see
Dr Franklin and was very happy with him, did have to wait in his office, but I felt it was worth it! Good Luck Piaa.
Will do - I called the office but they are closed for MLK Day.

lizard ,dr franklin was the first opinion and i dont think that a dr who only spends 10 minutes with a patient ( in most cases) can fully diagnose the problem whatever it is. maybe the diagnosis was correct maybe not. we will see

I have no idea as to your problem with DR Franklin. EE asked what the alternative would be. You stated a second opinion. We were talking about a Doctor for Piaa not you or you Boy friend. I hope everything worked out for you and your boy friend and he is feeling better. However my opinion of DR Franklin is different than yours.

i was referencing your comment that one should get a 1st opinion before getting a second. maybe im wrong, it just seemed directed towards me. yep i know who was requesting the dr info. no problem there. i was just giving my opinion which was what you did?? why is that a problem?
oh lizaed
if you only want positive opinions on this board i can do that too. i would think that people asking questions would like a variety of opinions as only one can get pretty dull.
speee1dy,
you can have any opinion about anything you want. I never said you were wrong or right, I did say we had different opinions of Dr Franklin. My experience with him was all good and he fixed me (my problem). Sometimes things don't come out exactly as you mean them. So if you thought I was referencing you in any negative way, sorry didn't mean it that way.
lizard
thank you
The amount of 'time' a Dr. spends with s patient has absolutely NOTHING to say about his skills as a physician, except to prove that he is good at what he does...if it took a dentist an hour to diagnose a cavity, would you really want to use that dentist? Now, if he finds it in 30 seconds, I would think that you would be reassured that he knows what he's doing...Dr. Franklin is no different...since he is a specialist, he doesn't need to spend time ruling out things that he already knows are not the problem...he can diagnose quickly because he is GOOD! Now, don't get me wrong here, I have never used him as a doctor...but I am in his office at least once a week and I see more than what a patient does...I also have a chance to talk with a lot of his patients, and they all rave about him...that seems like a good recommendation right there...if his current patients are happy, he must be doing something right...why else would he be the #1 Urologist in the VI?
Thank you everyone - appointment booked (first available) Feb 11th
