Update
On Aug 8, M and I were ready with the bid. We called the real estate agent to verify the fax number and make aware it was on its way. Crappy thing is, someone made an offer on the 7th and the owner excepted it. M and I lived for two weeks in a state of shock. All the things trying to get ready! Boo whhooooo! Looks like another winter in good ol' Toledo.
So far, we have started the liquidation process. Because things were not clear cut (and obviously with some foresight), we still have the house!
1. Cottage is sold, $ easily assessible.
2. Started to get rid of furniture, we figured if it needed replaced anyways. The life of handme downs...
3. Started all the sorting and disposing of personal items.
4. Began some remodeling projects on the house to add value for the sale of it.
5. Began liquidation/close of the embroidery business. We are selling off some things and 'winterizing' others for shipping. Official close date of 08/31 or maybe 09/31 since I have a little more time.
M and I still feel pretty good, after the shock and disappointment wore off, that we are on the right track. We are going to keep up with our list of things and working toward our goal of island life and StX. Fellow Crucians, keep your eyes and ears open for that oppurtunity for us and don't forget about us. We are planning another trip in Feb, Mar 05 for business, vacation to keep acclimated. Good thing is if something comes up, M and I are very able to act rather quickly unlike last March of 04.
Still dreamin'
Island Rat and
Don't worry, you'll get there eventually! I wish I would have had the foresight to begin the liquidation process sooner. We leave a week from today and we still haven't sold my car and many other items that we aren't taking. Sometimes I wish we had more time, other times, I just can't wait to get down there!
Hello Eve,
Keep looking I am sure you will find something else!! All the best. Now you have more time to plan. 🙂

Eve, remember, for every door that shuts, another one opens, and usually a better one. I have an interesting idea for you and will email you soon.
Oh Eve, I'm so sorry that this one didn't come through. I can't imagine the depth of your disbelief when you found you missed it by only a day after investing so much of yourselves in this endeavor.
I'm in there with Barefoot Bubba, though -- fate will always take care of you if you let it and are patient, which you both are. This means that there's something better heading your way -- fate just may be running on island time on the way to bring it to you.
You're already back in the Crucian mindset by looking on the added time as a gift -- from what I have learned about you, I think you're already more acclimated to being a Crucian than a couple of folks I've met who have lived here for years!
Keep doing what you're doing in moving ahead with the plan, and know that there's many, many folks whose lives you have touched who are puuling for you and will do everything they can to nudge fate and that perfect opportunity along.
You will of course let us know your next travel dates as soon as you lock them in so we can plan an STX gathering while you're here, right? And by that time, we should be finished with all of the construction on our house (fate, contractors, and construction permit providers willing) so we can have you guys over for dinner.
Hang strong, friend -- we're with you!
Luv ya,
HC
Thank you Janelle, Islander, HC and Bubba for helping to ease the pain.
I'll be waiting for the email from you Bubba.
Eve
In our plans for the next visit we would like to plan the get togeather. Than we have a reason to stay an extra couple days...:)
Keep the island warm for us
Island Rat
Eve: I am so very sorry that it didn't work out this time but hang in there cause God may have a much better deal waiting in the wings for you. I was looking forward to meeting you at the get together but will wait for the next one to meet you and yours. or whenever.
Eve,
What's wrong with going ahead with your plans to leave for STX and just renting place? We just came back from STX and asked alot of questions about the island and living there as we hope to possibly retire there or buy a condo to live 3 or 4 months out of the year. Most said that they rented first before deciding to buy and they were glad they did. I was just wondering as it seems a shame you are packed and ready to go.
Yvonne
YL,
M and I are pretty young yet and have to have a way to earn money to pay for all the necessary insurance premiums. In saying this, we have been very lucky in having good jobs and business oppurtunities and do not want to give up what we have now to fall back to working for somebody else at lower wages, and without all the benefits we now have. Our goal is to move up and develope our own business togeather.
Dear HC,
We are hoping to move it STX and build a small place. One of your messages made it seem like you bought a house. This message sounds like you are building or maybe building-on. I'm wondering if you could share what it's been like to build a house there if that's the case? The books say $150/sq foot. Is that what you have found to be true? (I know it all depends on how its all trimmed out etc.) Any other info on your building/remodeling experience would be really appreciated.
Tom is wanting to come to the island site unseen and trust that we can handle any thing that comes along. Yikes, I have alot of trepidation about that, but I am warming up to the idea!
Peace...
