understanding all the licence plate codes
I see many different license plates on cars. PL, red plates with numbers, PE and so on. Does anybody know what they all mean?
This is just my mind wandering while I'm following cars in traffic.
What are PL and PE? Letters in the plate number?
If it helps, this old thread explains how the standard-issue license plates for St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John each start with their own letter:

East End Doug is on STX - would people over there have STJ park plates?
Friends of the park plates are availble on STT. A nice way to show support for one of teritority's greatest resources.

It is indeed and yes they are available both on STT and STJ. However, I do not believe these have anything to with what East End Doug is referring to as in "PL, PE etc" which he's talking about seeing on STX. Love to know if you find out, EEDoug!!
I believe that park plates are also availbe on STX, I've seen a few.
Red PL = professional lawman? Just a guess...
Right now there are over 20 organizations that have vanity plates to sell as fundraisers. The pink or rend ones could be from a sorority or fraternity that may have groups here in the islands. My St Thomas Historical Trust has those that have an H, the Park has P- Landmarks Society has S. I have see FF for firefighters, various schools, UVI, even the Charterboat League. Just read it, when close. and you will see what it's for.
