Good morning, Jim,

Do a search on "scooter" and "motorcycle" for past discussions of this topic, (Make sure to set your search range at the bottom of the search page; the default is last 30 days.) You will find plenty of opinions in favor and opposed.

On St. Thomas, Biz Scooters rents scooters and motorcycles. I know there was another outfit on STT as well, but I don't remember what they were called or know if they are still operating.

If you are talking about bicycles, that's an impractical option for most folks because of the steep hills.

Good luck to you!

The bicycles on STX can drive me crazy sometimes.

Yesterday a group of about 10-15 were riding on the South Shore Road heading East at about 5:30 p.m.. They were taking up the whole lane, riding in two columns. A car was following them, presumably, to keep drivers from hitting them since they were taking up both lanes. A group of about 5-6 cars had to drive at 10-15 mph because the road can be very curvy and there aren't many places to pass.

I understand wanting to be in shape or practicing for a tournament, but do they actually have to impede traffic during a time when a lot of people are trying to go home?

Luckily, it was the start of my shift so I wasn't in a hurry, but I could see the angry faces in the other cars. There has to be a law against this.

They drive me crazy too. Are you sure they have the right of the road HERE? Also I don't think they are allowed to block traffic. I mean these people are going 5 to 10 miles an hour.

Bicycles have the right to ride tandem on the left allowing vehicles to pass.

I doubt they have the right to slow traffic to a crawl by using a car to follow them and taking up the whole lane!!

Right or not right, it's just inconsiderate. It's supposed to be "share the road", and that works in reverse too.

If you don't ride stateside, learn there before you come. There are usually great classes to learn there. Here you will have a HUGE learning curve with tons of sharp/blind turns, hills with lots of loose grave, large potholes, driving left and RAIN. Just turning left when you start riding is usually a challenge for most, so please don't start here, unless like dntw8up says you are a donor. 🙂
