I have all but made up my mind to move to the USVI, but I still have two questions I need answered.No.1- can you watch American football on the islands? I know this sounds trivial, but I am a fan.No. 2- what is the mosquito to human flesh ratio? I have spent some time in SE Asia as well as Australia, and the only down side to those trips were the insects, so honestly what can I expect?
ant help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Brian

OH My God? In regards to Football you could get any local cable provider like Innovative or Choice and you can get all the ESPN as well as all national networks. Now if you are really a Football fan you have to get Dish Network this is directly from the US mainland and the have the NFL package in HD i have it. In regards to Drectv don't be mistaken is not the same as the US Directv down here is from Latin america and our service is based out of Puerto rico it sucks. In regards to Mosquitos i grew up in Puerto rico honestly i don't see any difference with STT maybe in San Juan because of the Urban Sprawl you might have less. But honestly the Mainlander are always worry about mosquitos and it is no worst than South Florida in the summer and allot better than the Mississippi Delta and statuaries down South??????????

Are you sure about that? I'm new to STX but have just gone through the same issue. As far as I could find there in nothing offered by Dish similar to DirecTV's Sunday ticket which would allow you to see all of the games of your favorite NFL team. Dish does appear to have a package for college games and they have the NFL Network which is a single channel that broadcasts some games from time to time.

If you know of a HD package from Dish that allows you to see all NFL games please share details 😎

Thanks.

p.s. - At this point my only option is to keep my DirecTV service running in Seattle, pay for the Sunday Ticket plus the Superfan option which is supposed to allow me to see the games live via PC.

Since a statuary is basically a collection of sculpture why are the mosquitoes so bad there?

I assumed the meaning was estuary.

(Exit )remind me to send the check for the English lesson????????????

Well try to correct this if you can???

En el area Sur de los Estados Unidos como el Delta del Mississippi y los estuarios hay mas Mosquitos que en Santo Tomas..

I know how to write estuary but i was writing Fast . You know when you speak and write in several languages you are never perfect in one but i think he understood what i was trying to say.

In regards to Dish network there is the complete package including NFL network and there are about 10 Sports Channels and like 5 in HD.

We have the Dish also and get all kinds of sports channels. Although I don't watch them, my father-in-law does when he is here. He has never complained about not being able to find any sports event he was wanting to watch.

As for the mosquitoes, when I moved here last August my son and I were ate up by them. However, a year later we don't seem to be bothered by them as much. Some things I think have helped are one, we have built up an immunity to the bites so we don't notice them as much. Two, new screens on the windows so none of the little blood suckers can get through. Three, I have a mosquito magnet so we don't have as many around the building. Four, I have my guy keep the grass cut short around the building. I will also spray flit around the base and under the bed and dresser in my son's room if we get a surge of mosquitoes after rain.

Some other things to think about as far as the little buzzing pests, make sure the overflow pipes on your cistern have screens. Don't let water stand anywhere such as my favorite - the trays on the bottom of plant pots.

As an alternative to paying for cable or a dish down here, I'm buying a Slingbox having my friend in the states install it in a spare bedroom with its own additional cable box on his plan (which I'm reimbursing him for). The slingbox streams the tv over the internet and since I have my LCD tv double as a computer monitor, I watch all my old local stations plus whatever additonal packages he subscribes to. Only thing about doing this is making sure your friend won't override your internet remote, which he'll probably do to be annoying.

As far as I know the Pro Football NFL package is only available on DirectTV. Dish offers a complete college football package.

pretty much all newcomers get eaten alive for 2-6 weeks and then you start to taste too "local" to the mosquitos to be bothered as much by them. they go in search of new blood. If you arrive during a rainy season, it's even worse. If you come during very dry weather, you may avoid the worst of the mosquito bloodletting.

With Dish network, we get lots of sports of all kinds on a variety of channels. it all depends on what package you choose to pay for. You may not have access to every single game every weekend, but there's more on than most people would want to sit inside for when there are so many other things to be doing out and about the island on weekends. 🙂
