two drivers licenses
I know that you are supposed to get a USVI drivers license if you are there over three months a year. I know you have to give up your stateside license when you get one. What about when you go back stateside for the other nine months? Has anyone gotten their "lost " stateside drivers license repalced, while keeping the USVI license for when they are out there?
Having a USVI license dose have some advantages when out there, but I think that your state wouldn't like it if you didn't have theirs during the nine months.
I gave up my stateside license and when I went home I said I lost it and got another one. I have both with no problems. People in the States tend to not recognize the VI license as valid anyway.
I would keep BOTH. Otherwise, you will be required to take the written and driving test again to get your
stateside license
Note: When or if anyone relocates back to the states - I found that the insurance rate is higher - for a period of time - due to the fact of driving on the left.
I kept my CA license because it does have my motorcycle certification on it and do not want to take that driving test again. Luckily I still had my Tx ID to give to them for my VI license. The only problem with the stateside license is when you renew it you are more like to get summoned for jury duty, so you'll have to deal with a few beauricatic phone calls to get out of it or not depending on your state i guess.
Terry.. it is easy for you. Go online with ADOT, click on the "lost license" tab, pay four dollars and they will mail you a new license... you don't even have to go in. (You do, however, need your driver's license number.) I did this when my dl was stolen last year and just had my best friend's address put on the license. (They will only mail to the address on the license, and wouldn't issue a replacement if I was living in the VI) My friend got it in about a week and mailed it to me. No big deal.
