Has anyone ever had a TV shipped from Frys.com? If so how long did it take to arrive and were you pleased? Thanks a bunch.

I've never had a Fry purchase shipped here because they use DHL and charge international rates. Shipping a TV here will be very costly because the shipping charge considers weight. I have used Frys and had them ship within the mainland U.S. and been pleased with their products and service.

Just spoke to someone at work who had arranged for a 46" flat screen to be shipped here (STX) via www.abesofmaine.com. Abe's just called him to tell him they made a big mistake on shipping cost and the actual cost would be something like $800!!! Needless to say he isn't pleased and is probably going to just cancel his order.

I ordered a 42" flat screen in 2006. It was $246 for delivery to VI Cargo then another $300 for VI Cargo to STX plus taxes and duties.

In 2006 not much selection on STX and the local prices were very high. I figure I saved $500.

Now there is a much better selection on STX at Cost U Less, K-Mart/Sears, Radio Shack and the prices are low enough that I wouldn't go through the problems of shipping a delicate piece of electronics to the VI. Who is responsible if the TV is damaged in shipment? If the unit is defective out of the box you are going to have to pay for the return freight.

Unless you can save a lot of money is it worth having a TV shipped to the VI?

Jim

The shipping costs drove me to switch to a ceiling mounted front projector. Very large screen and easy to ship.

I agree with Jim Dandy. From what I can tell, prices for plasma tvs are considerably higher than the mainland -- unless they are on sale. I've also think that some of the money that you'd spend on the best technology is going to be wasted when, for the most part, you'll be getting standard digital tv on the islands. So given the hassle factor, I'll pay $300 more for the K-Mart mid-line, name brand tv compared to Amazon/ VI Cargo.

Having said all that, I would like to buy a 50 plasma name brand tv ASAP. I'm not sure of the sales cycle for K-Mart but if someone knows of a good deal, please PM me.

For much the same reason this is the route I'm considering. I've got a ceiling mounted HD projector in our house in Seattle and I'm thinking about a table/console positioned one for here in STX.

The shipping costs drove me to switch to a ceiling mounted front projector. Very large screen and easy to ship.
