What's the latest on Dish vs. Direct vs. Innovative TV?

Dish still rules if its the same as on STX. DirecTV is the latin feed. Innovative is just starting to do "HD" with a DVR but it's 13 channels and knowing about their infrastructure I'm going to imagine the quality of the feed isn't great (but I haven't personally seen it). Dish isn't perfect but it is the stateside service for the most part, there are a few HD channels missing and you have to get your networks in SD through a second party company but it is pretty much the same as if you got it in the states.

Cons of satellites is they are much more expensive then stateside and getting abc, nbc, cbs, fox are a real pill and on one of those channels there is no guarantee you will get it, think it's abc. Something about the local channel here and getting a wavier. Innovative is more expensive monthly (not by much at all though) but MUCH easier to set up. Supposedly Innovative is getting a dvr this month so I'm crossing my fingers that's true. Just got to choose what fits you best. Good Luck.

Dish is now done on a 3 foot Dish and is not very expensive to install like it used to be. Alan can tell you the price but I think its like $200-300 for the equipment.

We do get hosed on the networks having to pay $15 or so a month extra for them, but getting them setup is not a big deal. You don't have to do anything but call and signup. All American Direct does the waiver thing and within 30 days or less they appear. It's not that big a deal really. I also hear that this may be changing soon.

Everyone I know who relocated from the states and got DirecTV or Innovative and then got Dish regretted not just getting Dish to start with. Three years ago when you need a 4 foot and 6 foot Dish that cost over a thousand dollars the alternative choices were appealing but now I'm surprised anyone even thinks of the other options unless they are only here for a very short term amount of time. Dish isn't perfect but it's so much better than the alternatives here.

And no, I don't work for Dish or get anything for recommending them...just trying to be helpful...Alan set me up a few years ago and I've never regretted getting the Dish's put in (even though I had to pay much more than what you pay now).

Not the way the waiver thing was explained to me by Alan 6 months ago. He said most likely you will get all the channels but no guarantee that you will get all of them or how long it would take. If that has changed I'm glad to hear it, but I still don't want a satellite attached to my house or taking up space in my yard. And I don't want to have to worry about it or take it down in a hurricane. It's not a no brainer, everyone feels differently.

The dish is now 30 inch and cost $100 to $200 for installation with credit qualification.

5 minutes to take down for a storm. No joke! It goes back up without a re-point required if you follow our simple instructions. Only tool required is a 1/2 inch wrench.

After a hurricane you'll have TV on generator while your neighbors wait for Innovative. I've heard weeks or months outage from some.

Most customers that want ABC get it. The Buccaneer should get ABC off air with an antenna and pipe it into the headend on channel 8. Call whoever maintains your system. ( FYI The Buc is one of the few hotels we don't service.)

Say what you want but for clarity, reliability, value, 50 FREE HD channels.................................Dish rules!!
They have had the highest customer satisfaction rating for several years running nationwide. And to think it's available here.:@)

Edited to add the networks are $3.49 each from NY or San Fran and $3.99 for both. Figure in $13.97 a mo for networks. The thing that gets me about Innovative networks is that they put infomercials where major programs should be. According to my customers Innovative plays a Steamshark ad in the slot that should show Ellen but they show Oprah twice a day. LOL That won't happen with a stateside feed.

Sean, I'm glad you're enjoying your dish. Thanks for the kind words!

I am getting ready to have direct installed. They told me the equipment is free and that includes two boxes. $4.99 per month for the networks (FOX/CBS?NBC...No ABC) and the package will be $38 per month with a $10 discount for the first year. It seems to have most of the channels I like. History and some others. I'm not a big tv watcher and for the price and the number of channels it seems ok....Most of the commercials are in spanish but I really don't have a problem with that because I surf away from them anyway...........

Dish works very well, great to have DVR and HD. Dish's customer service is excellent.

What they are short on is sports packages, i.e. NFL and MLB. You will want to add the networks , maybe both coasts, if you want a selection of games.

I do wish Dish had the MLB extra innings and NFL pac.

If you like football you can get NFL Red Zone and networks from 2 coasts. College Game Day and regional stuff.
For Basketball fans, You can get the NBA League Pass or watch tons of games on ESPN and TNT.
College Basketball on Full Court, Espn, networks.
NHL center Ice, Golf channel, Tennis channel, Fox soccer, PPV Cricket, Horse racing TV on 2 channels, Versus, boxing, wrestling, cage fighting, fishing, hunting etc.....

Tons of sports on Dish!

The only MLB baseball game available today on Dish is White Sox vs Indians on WGN which requires a subscription to AT200 or higher.

When my father passed away one of the comments his grandson made at the funeral is that even though his grad father lived until he was eighty three it wasn't long enough to see the Cubs win.

I would hate to become a die hard Cubs fan and have my son repeat the same remark at my funeral.

This year my son who has been a life long Cubs fan switched his rooting allegiance to the White Sox.

Good point on the packages...no one but DirecTV has the NFL package, stateside or here. They have that locked in for now. The Redzone is a decent alternative. MLB is disappointing, I'm not sure why Dish doesn't have that one. You can get it online now and watch it on a Roku although with the internet packages currently offered here it's a bit of a stretch to get great quality. I have the NHL package on Dish though, couldn't go without it as a die hard hockey fan.

I haven't taken my Dish's down yet in a storm (including Omar) although one day that will likely be necessary and is a valid consideration. But with a 30" dish this isn't that big of a deal. 30" is only 12" bigger than the stateside Dish (and actually some locations in the states use wing dishes that are even bigger). I seriously can't imagine a 30" dish being a big deal to anyone who lives in the Caribbean and has to deal with Cistern's, water pumps, leaky roof's etc., it's such a small concern and I just can't imagine paying Innovative for their horrible service, but like Hiya said, everyone is different.
