I might be interested in adopting him. How much meat would you say he has on him?

We have 5 red footed tortises (two are ex Island Animal patients, a glued back together shell and another with a missing leg)
Salad is good (they like Romaine lettuce).
a little fruit and cat food (once a week), and water.
Ours like to eat around 5:30-6pm.
Male's have a concave belly, so they can more easily mount the females.
Do you have dogs or are their feral dogs in the area? (turtle safety concerns)

We had a California Desert Tortise just show up out of the blue when I was a kid. We lived over by the Yacht Club. We kept him for a while and I think someone came and got it from Parks Dept after a while. I wonder if there is a breeding population.

The tortoises have commitment issues. As long as they can go, they will! Most around here are South American Red Footted Tortoises. There are also yellow footed ones as well. I have one. and probably around 25 adult red footred ones.I have 4 juuvinilesles right now in my kitchen. I keep them until they are about a year old and their shells are hard, otherwise the neighborhood cats get them!
They eat a variety of things including dog food! No uncooked cauliflower though! Mine eat in the early morning. Banana peels, mangoes, any fruit of vegetable.

someone called yesterday about it. but never called back. he or she is being taken care of. i named it tortolelli. my dogs seem to pay it no mind. does not like to be caged though, seems sort of restless. fed some lettuce and flowers this morning. and of course tried the dog food.

stxmike...sorry about last night talked to family in states.

i think its a red footed because it has some red spots on her legs.....
my concern was do they bite or not and a friend called and said they didnt. whewwwwwwwwww!!!!

They love slugs.
I once fed my big female a slug on my finger....and get got part of my finger with her bite.
Completely my fault.....I now drop the slugs in front of her.

Dixie I am pretty sure it is JJs tortise. We have two. A male and female. Our caretaker let his grandchildren play with them and he never put them back in their habitat. He has never found them. JJ is heartbroken. They are both very sweet and love romaine lettuce and watermelon. If you text me a picture I can tell you for sure. I am praying that it is one of ours.

They love hibiscus flowers. Watch out for red toe nail polish, they used to try to eat my toes. They must love the color red.
