Truck Shipping/Where to Stay?

Hi All,

I am planning to move to VI's in late September 03. I am planning to drive my Truck to Tropical Shipping [Miami]. Who do I contact when it arrives in VI to take it thru customs & Vehicle Registration. It will be alot easier for them to do it than me. It was made in the U. S. so I know by reading other letters that it will be duty free. If anyone has a phone # of the people who take it thru the registration process I would appreciate it.

Now where do I stay? I was in St. croix about a year & half ago. I stayed at a Resort a few miles from Green Cey Marina. I may have mispelled that Marina . Since I didn't get to visit the other Islands , I do not know what places are safe. As we all know almost every part of the World has some Bad places . Of course good old Common Sense goes a long way. Does anyone know anything about Villa Fairview appartments? Located in St. John. . What kind of area is it? How about appartments on or near one of the Beaches. What are the rates? I could use any kind of help . What would be really nice is for someone show & or tell me all the things about the Islands as possible. That probably aint gonn happen, huh.

Thanku ED.

ED: On the chance that you are sincere...you should go back and read the archives here first. Villa Fairview is on St Thomas. Look through the moving guide on the navigation bar at the top of this page. Are you shipping your truck to St Croix or St Thomas?

If you are driving from the North, no need to go to Miami. They actually ship out of Riviera Beach, just North of West Palm Beach.

Ed,

You would still need to pay road tax and get insurance on the trunk and inspection and registration that you already know about.

In terms of places to stay you are a bit all over the place, St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas - which island are you moving too???

As for Green Cay Marina on St. Croix that resort is Tamarind Reef Resort.

Villa Fairview is on St. Thomas not St. John. Its right outside of the main shopping areas of Charlotte Amalie - on the hillside overlooking it basically. Good choice. East Ender suggested a good place to look - in the moving guide on the top of this page select moving guide and select housing. Info is there with links.

Apartments on the beach would be astronimical in price if they exisited - not to many to speak of - there are houses, apartments with ocean views and they are pricey but depends on the size of the place it could be anywhere from $800-$2500 depending on size and exact location... there are condos you can get that are beach front at places like Sapphire and Secret Harbor... they are on St. Thomas.

As for showing you were to find information about the islands - that is the point of the moving guide that is on this site... just go and read through it and you were learn about various topics related to island life. If you have specific questions after reading it then ask and folks will try and help.

All the best with your move.
