Trouble with a pest control company-STX

I moved into a new lease agreement Sept. 1st. I was very sick at that time and hubby gone on business, so much of my move was done by our friends. When my husband return over a month later, he noticed a major reduction in his tools. He was a carpenter for 30 years before getting into another career, so he had some nice tools! Air guns in cases, drills, all type, etc. we don't know tally but, well over 2k.

Even though I was ill, I had to go to doctor, pharmacy, etc. on occasion and not often. The first two months the exterminator guy(s), as this company sends out two???, even though I was there at the house 99% of the time, I missed these guys twice! I live high up on side a steep hill or small mountain on a dead end road with only mine and my neighbor's drive.

We were off island for a few weeks in December and they actually called before coming as we requested after finding things missing. Well in January they didn't call and showed up and I was at the house alone as husband had taken dog to groomer and his Jeep was in shop so no cars were here. He showed up surprised I or anyone was home!

On, Wednesday, Jeep still in shop, I had driven myself to Physical Therapy, and lo and behold, they showed up, without calling and over two weeks earlier than they should have been there. There are always two so one cannot watch every movement.

The previous landlord used a very professional company; sent out a nice man that had been doing it for years who wore a uniform and presented himself as the professional he is not two young kids with headphones and baggy pants.

Yesterday, we went out to enjoy the pool and a little music and that's when we couldn't find my $500., 16 gb IPod was missing from it's speaker system. It's never away from the system and could have been easily just picked up and pocketed when hubby signed in the kitchen that they had been there, while other guy was out of sight heading past iPod on covered deck.

I am not mentioning the company here, but can address this in PM if anyone has any suspicions that this has happened to you. Believe me, if you didn't know this house was here, you'd never traverse that pot holed vertical climb if you weren't going there for a purpose. This area of Hermon Hill hasn't had any burglaries that I know or heard of happening. These were the only people in my house except a very short list of extremely close friends as I was too sick for visitors. But, thankfully, my friends came and helped me.

Any experiences you've had like this I'd appreciate some feed back.

Ugh, this is why we have never have workers out to our house that we don't know and trust or who don't have solid recommendations from our friends who know and trust them. This happens too often. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. 🙁 🙁

Yes, management company has been informed and manager has called the company in January and they showed up Friday knowing a vehicle was not here and we were most probably not at home. They were just here less than two weeks ago for MONTHLY spraying. Only people up here all day or night as one of us was here the whole day and night. Missing after they left was the iPod this time. Being doubled teamed by having two come should not be happening. It only takes one to spray on monthly sprayings. Over a year at previous place and that pest guy never had a problem finding me home as I am retired!

Sounds like a good time for a sting operation. Get a web cam with motion sendor and lay out some bait.

This is so sad but another reason for my cameras..as soon as you pull into my yard you know they are there and I can pull them up on my phone at anytime...I really hope that company is dealing with it

While setting up a camera is a good idea probably anywhere than here! Just like the ATM tape I took to police back in the nineties with the person clearly identifiable using my ATM card that was in my purse stolen off my arm in broad daylight! I'll just probably forgive them and move on! I you suspect your company doing the same, you can PM me for the name of the company doing our pest control (right, never have seen anything here dead so not sure they are using any thing but water.)

The cameras are for me...I have my own courtroom in a van down by the river 😉

Hopefully you filed a police report and also have renter's insurance.

When they came in January without letting you know (as had been agreed upon) you should have turned them away and immediately called the company to let them know that this unscheduled visit was unacceptable.

Obviously this is not a licensed, insured company. Tell your management company you are holding them responsible.
The scenario you describe is totally nuts--

I use Terminix and have for the last 10 yrs. I have the same very nice, polite, well spoken, young man, every time (in uniform and with business vehicle) He always calls to schedule a day & time to come when I will be home as he sprays inside and outside of main house and vacation rental apt. I have dogs so like to put them in kennel when he is here so they do not get in the way.

You need to change companies if they are not on the up and up and/or not addressing these issues to your satisfaction.
Unfortunately, they already know where you live so maybe time for an alarm company in addition to a new pest control company.

We use Terminex, too. I hope this is not them. They have always done a great job, call ahead to schedule, show up on time, and are always very polite and conscientious.

To my mind, anyone that just shows up unscheduled or without prior notice is someone I can do without.
Terminix has been great.

I agree and would totally file a police report.

You all are right, it is not Terminex, but I did have them in former house, NO PROBLEM! It IS a licensed company and they send two YOUNG, early twenties to late twenties. This is over a 6 month period. But, just found out that the owner wasn't even paying them. In the 28 something pages of the lease, they don't even pay the pest control, so I am now assuming they have been coming to my house, not only checking things out, but taking things that do not belong to them. No way to prove it though!
Thanks for your responses!
