Traveling with 30-lb dog
Before anyone gets mad, I tried to search the forums for threads relating to this, but for some reason it's not working...
My husband and I will be moving down to STX sometime in the next 6 months or so with our 30-lb dog. I am very concerned about her not being able to be a carry-on with me in the cabin. I would really appreciate receiving PMs from anyone who can offer some insight as to what airlines might be the best to go with, how much it costs to charter from San Juan (I know that's a possibility as well)... we will be coming from Florida originally, but can drive to Miami first if need be to shorten the flying time...
Any success stories? Costs? Assuming we don't make the trip until February, we shouldn't have to worry too much about the 85-degree heat issue, right?
Any info would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!

Looks like Trade saves the day! 😀
I think the weight limit in cabin is 20lb (at least on AA).
No can do on in cabin. There's a 8" animal height and 9" carrier height restriction as I recall so unless you have a heavy Daschund it probably won't work.
No need to charter a plane from San Juan. You can simply fly with your dog as luggage on American. I also noticed this past weekend that there is a Miami to STX direct flight which I didn't know about. Worst case scenario is if you go through San Juan or St. Thomas and can't use American (can't see why not given the size of your dog) you can use Seaborne Airlines. They can handle 500 series kennels (American Eagle only goes up to 400 series) and their price is very reasonable.
I also seem to recall there are direct flights a couple of times/week from Atlanta to STX on Delta if that helps.
There are also Ft. Lauderdale to San Juan AA flights.
