Traveling to STX, with a stop in STT...

It's been a while since I've traveled to St. Croix with a stop in St. Thomas, and my memory is hazy on some details.

I'm taking a United flight from the mainland to St. Thomas, then a Cape Air hop over to St. Croix. My question is: Must one leave the "secure" (post-TSA screening) area, in order to make the Cape Air connection? Hopefully not, as I'd like to avoid going through security twice.

Thanks for any info.

When I flew Cape Air from STT and STX last month, there was no security check. So in STT, you'll probably leave the secure area, go to the Cape Air gate, and onto the plane without the hassle.

No. As long as you are checked through to STX, you will not have to exit the terminal and go through TSA again. FINDING the Cape Fear terminal is another story. Plus they can be rude. Plus, they're always running late. Plus, sometimes their pilots fall asleep. Plus, sometimes they become so engaged in conversation with people in the back seat that they almost miss oncoming air traffic.

But sometimes you get to sit in the co-pilot seat, which is fun!

ETA: Actually, I was thinking of SJU not STT. I think in STT you just walk down to the Cape Fear terminal. There's a glassed in waiting area and the pilots just walk you out to the plane Checked luggage will go through automatically, and I don't recall any second screening of my carry on. Although they do make you put most of it in the wing and if it doesn't fit, it'll have to be checked. Never ran into that problem myself, so I'm not sure what happens if your "regular" carry on doesn't fit in their Cessna's "wing baggage" compartment. At SJU they just gate check it. I imagine STT does the same thing.
