I am considering a vacation (1 week) to your islands and have found on expedia.com travellers opinions sections
many complaints about the resorts on STT.....
What I was hoping was that some of you locals could help guide me to what would be the best resorts...
One example of negative feedback was that one of the Saffire resorts had restaurant and bar advertised and neither were even opened and no explanation was offered as to why......
So, you all seem very knowledgeable about the island....and I would like to hear some opinions of the local resorts.
cost and location are really not a huge issue.....just want a nice vacation.
Thanks to all, Amanda

Hi Amanda - you might get more specific answers to your question on the vacation message board - look at the top right of this board for the link.

Good evening, Amanda,

Sapphire has always been a great place to stay. Unfortunately the beach bar and restaurant are closed right now and probably will be for a while as the previous lessee goes through bankruptcy proceedings and the two locations remain in a litigous process. However, the upscale poolside restaurant (which was never a part of that whole melee) has just re-opened under new management, No reports on that so far.

In defense of Sapphire, the units there are very very nice and the beach and amenities are delightful. Anybody staying there is within easy reach of good local restaurants. Seems to me that those who posted negative comments are maybe the sort of travellers who want to have a frou-frou drink on the beach at their beck and call...

As an alternative you might want to look into Secret Harbour which too has a beautiful beach, or Point Pleasant.

All these locations are on the East End of the island, all offer accomodations which include everything you need to eat "in" and drink "in" incredibly comfortably but with easy access to explore the island in general either via taxi or rental vehicle.

Probably for a one-week stay and given that this is your first visit, you just might feel more comfortable simply chilling - and I would recommend any of the three I mentioned. The visitor's forum will give you a whole lot more information! Happy planning!

I agree Secret Harbour is very charming. It's not a giant resort which is always a plus in my book. The rooms have kitchens and if I'm not mistaken they all have an ocean view. The grounds are very lush and they have a great restaurant.
