Click on "Shipping" at the top & also do a search on the board. There are lots of threads about sending a car.

you should look at the info on this page. but you can get an exact quote by calling tropical shipping. all cargo leaves from miami. so you can ship the truck (guees would be about 2000) by land to miami and another 2000 to get it to STT. Then you will need to pay a local road tax of about 1000. So you will have sunk in about 5000 before you drive a mile.

But call tropical they can help you.

Shipping your truck will cost about $2,300 including taxes, licensing and registration. We have recent quotes from Managed Freight & VI Cargo . . . we used VI because they were a tad more helpful and we had stuff to drop off at their warehouse for crating too.
I've been renting pick ups with Budget . . . runs just under $800 for 11 days. Their trucks are all new. I gave up with Hertz in STX, they rarely have pick ups available.

Thank you for your info.Managed frt came back with a quote of approx $1800.00 ,with all the bells & whistles. said it would take 8 days ,I don't understand that.Whats the road tax at .16/lb.,that could put me over the sell edge as far as selling /vs cartage. i just thought in theses tight times it would make more $$ sense to keep my trk than to buy on the VI.??Thanks in advance.

After realizing the associated costs, I think the primary benefit to bringing your own vehicle is peace of mind. You know it's true history and the mechanical shape it's in.

It takes eight days to ship because they only ship once a week and you have to have your car at the port 3-4 days before departure. So if departure is on Thursday, you have to have your car in their hands by Monday. It leaves sometimes Thursday and arrives Friday sometime. By the time the whole ship clears customs, you're at Monday or Tuesday again. And that supposes your car gets on the ship on Thursday. Individual cars can and are bumped for other freight.

If I'm shipping a motorcycle, can it be put in the same container as the household furnitue and such?

The car is at sea for more than one day. Depending on the boat it is three to four days at sea. Both Tropical and Crowley have more than ship per week.

Their sailing schedules are available on line. If every thing goes perfect it takes seven or eight days from the time the ship sails to when your car is available. This is in addition to the mandatory 72 hour customs hold in Fla.

As mentioned cars are shipped on a space available basis at the discretion of the load master. One car I shipped took about a month the other a week.
