to move to VI or not to move to VI...
My husband and I were in the VI in February and we absolutely fell in love with it. Now we are considering the posibilities of moving down there. We have two children (9 & 4).
We like St Croix and as I'm a nurse getting a job probably won't be too hard. Our concerns are: my husband is in calibration- any chance of finding a job?what are the schools like and where would be the best area to live? If anyone can give advice or information it would be greatly appreciated.
Serub,
My husband and I are also looking to move to StX (as well as many people on this board). Take the time to peruse this site, especially the moving stories by people who have done this before us. Than make the purchase of the Settlers Handbook. This has great info in it and is considered the movers "bible". After that look into an agent on St. X. The agents will send you a great deal of info.
The one I would suggest right now is the only buyers agent on the island. I understand he does not list property but assists in the purchase to rep the mover. His website is www.st-croix.net/realestate/
As you know from visiting St.X, it is hard to give one single area as the safest. Good and bad are together and it is more a feel, A pre-move visit where you actually tell your agent what you do and do not want is better. Although if you have specific places like address or specific parts, the locals of St.X will help you out. I wouldn't consider buying until viewing the property and area myself. I'm actually in St. X monday to view more properties.
As for the schools, seems like most continentals keep their children in private schools. Don't have any myself so is not a concern to me or my husband.
In regard to nursing, sounds like nurses work for the government but the positions are available when your on island and can interview/provide resume. PH will probably have better and clearer info on that one.
