Dishnetwork offers DVRs. Single tuner, dual tuner, HD etc...
DirecTV here is actually Latin America package so read the fine print before committing for a year.

What exactly is the Latin America package for DirecTV?

I think the best deal down here is Dishnetwork. You need at least a 4-6 foot dish but then you get the same programming as in the states. DirecTV Latin America is a subset of the DirecTV channels offered in the states. You can get them with a 1 meter dish but you only get about 100 channels. With Dish you get quite a few more.

I have had Tivo and Dish for the past 10 years. Works great. Tivo also works with St Croix and St Thomas cable but not with Choice wireless cable, their set top boxes are not compatible with Tivo.

Thanks for the info. We will be in St. Thomas on the 15th of October and MUST be able to watch football! We've had DirecTV for years, so were hoping to keep it, but we'll go with whatever works best there. Again, as long as I've got the NFL channel and can watch football, we'll be alright!! 🙂

We have TIVO and just LOVE it. Although, you tend to watch more TV than you ever would have before. We use it with Innovative Digital Cable.

I do not recommend DishNetwork, at least on St. Croix. You need two dishes to get all the channels, and then you STILL don't get local channels or the major networks. The company we bought our system from didn't tell us that until he was on his way out the door! (check in hand)

We have been working on trying to get the networks since April. We have had several reps at All American Direct tell us we can get the networks. We have gone through the process, including giving them our credit card, and still....no networks. Just yesterday, we finally got Fox. We were told again today, we could have it all at 2.99 per network (This is over and above the $100, plus/minus to Dish every month.) Hasn't happened yet. And, of course, you never get the same rep when you call back, and you have to start all over again.

I am going through all this for my tenants who want football. We told the Dish guy here we wanted football and Nascar. Unfortunately, we also told him we didn't know anything about cable, versus satellite, versus anything else. We are feeling a bit "had".

Juanita is correct about the networks. Congress took them away from us back in December. I have an address in the FL Keys so I can get the Miami locals. I think down here you should be able to get the PR locals if you ask. I also have a regular TV antenna to get VI local news.

As for needing two dishes, thats not quite correct. I have a few friends that use 1 six foot dish. The center lnbf points at 110(Echostar 8.10) and an offset lnbf points at 119(Echostar 7).

I have 11 dishes so I don't use the offset method.

One six foot dish is not the answer. You give up signal strength and will rain out very easily. Most VI residents use 1 dish and pick up sat 119. The second dish for 110 will enable you to get more channels as well as HD channels. Networks are available as descibed above, just be persistant. Keep in mind that the Dsihnetwork hardware is going to last for many years. The dish/dishes will most likely out live several TVs so consider it a one time cost.
Dishnetwork is the best offering for the VI.
DirecTV Latin America on the other hand will get you NFL Sunday Ticket and PR locals.
I know people with both just for the football.
Both have a committment period so read the agreement and ask questions before signing up.

Direct for NFL Sunday ticket. Dish for anything else.
Not sure if anyone is installing Direct on STT tho as I'm on STX
