Tipping Water Delivery Drivers
Hi everybody! I'm about to get a truck of water delivered and I wasn't sure if its customary to tip the driver and if so how much?
Thanks,
Kelly
I guess it wouldn't hurt but I never really thought about it. Where I live we don't. Are you in a house & is it difficult to get to & also, difficult for the water guy to put in the water?
I never thought to do that either but I only had to do it once after we cleaned the cistern as we have a well. The guy who filled ours was the owner I just offered a heinkein (always keep a six pack handy for delivery guys or maint type guys). Water usually gets turned down 😉
I always tipped our water guy - our driveway was very long, winding and uphill - we always had great service - often got "snuck in" in the schedule and the drivers used to go the extra mile not to 'clip' our stone walls.
Thank you all for your input. I ended up tipping him as he was done for the day and decided to make one last trip to us tonight.
Thanks Again,
Kelly
A footnote here, as in NO to tipping!
The water delivery companies do very well at this time of year when we're going through a very dry period. Their trucking and water costs are based on their per load and they have the same seasonal fluctuation as do all small businesses throughout the VI.
The drivers are paid like any other employee of any company to just do their job. They're employed and paid by someone who provides a service.
Would you tip a supermarket cashier, a retail store seller, the guy who delivers your gas?
what a dreadful attitude!
I tip the gas station guy every time I fill up & doubt anyone else does. That's also saved my neck on 2 occasions when they did a little extra maintenance unasked that saved me some money big time. I just never thought about the water guy although I don't usually actually see him. If I did, I probably would at least offer him a drink.
I always tip the gas station attendants too because they're nice enough to clean off my windows - and of course offer the water truck driver a drink (and, if I'm around when they come, the propane gas truck drivers too.) But unless the water delivery people go to some extreme measures to help out in an emergency, I don't think a cash tip is either appropriate or expected. Sorry if that comes across as a "dreadful attitude!"
