time warp
I just tried to log in and comment on the crime thread, but it is apparently closed.
It is too bad that some of these discussions become so emotional that we personalize them.
I read the newspaper article, and instead of seeing an insurmountable problem, I see a glimmer of hope. Apparently St Croix, according to the report ,has reduced their violent crimes. I can understand the frustration that Jane was voicing, and i suspect that if the same post was by joan or sally or tom it would not have been met with the same strong reactions.
I think all of us become frustrated with the crime statistics here and wish the problem would go away. I know that many, maybe most of us have been untouched by violent, or even property crimes in the Virgin Islands. However, we know from talking to others in the community that a major problem still exists.
That frustration with the causes of crime occasionally bubbles over. I am glad that many are taking a proactive role in the community. Crime problems can only change when education and economic factors are found to combat the root causes.
Have a nice Day friends.
I stayed out of the thread because I saw the fight coming. I have been on the board long enough to know. I kind of liked the article though. The main reason only 17 murders on STX. In Sacramento were I still am for now broke 300. I don't think percapita maters that much. It should be measured by square mile and you would see the truth. With crazy numbers in parts of L.A, Mimi, Huston, Oakland, N.Y, Charlot, Atlanta all over. You also don't have the serial killers and serial rapist like the rest of the country. They are a threat to the innocent bystander. That said a crack head is dangerous any where.
