Tiles St Croix
Where is the best place to buy floor tiles on St Croix? most selection etc. Any suggestions welcome. Thxs.
If you aren't in a hurry, someplace like Armrey can order what you want. The places with tile in stock don't have much to choose from. We have had our best luck at KaMaKris in Frederiksted. There is also the place in the area either Work/Rest, Castle Coakley or Peter's Rest. It's where those three kind of meet. The name is something like Home and Tool (?) Odd name, since they carry tile, lumber and a handful of other things. If you are looking for a lot of tile, you might consider a trip to San Juan.
Thanks Juanita, I'll check out KaMaKris. I was thinking of another trip to San Juan, but it feels like every time I go there I seem to spend so much time driving around and not that much time shopping.
Can anyone suggest a reasonable hotel that is near the area where all the building supply companies/tile companies are located?
Floor Specialists, near Reliable Rentals in Castle Coakley
I just bought a ton of tile for two bathroom and one kitchen makeovers. If you want to order on stx plan to order AT LEAST three weeks before, because all of the tile places keep very little in stock. Seriously very very little in stock and SOOO much more expensive for anything decent.
We ordered the bulk of our tile from stt home depot. And I was extremely grateful my husband got sent to pr to work for a few weeks, because more then half of our stuff did not ship! So he would go to one of the home depots in pr and mail it to me in a flat rate box. The tile in pr was much much cheaper.
IMO it's worth it to go to PR or MIA to buy tile. I know I will next time. Cheaper and much more professional.
Wow, I haven't had any problem getting as much tile as I need in STX. Floor Specialist and Home and Tool mostly. Home and tool is a little flaky but we got great tile there for our recent rennovations, about 1200 sq feet for $2.50/sq foot of nice porcelein tile. We bought cheaper tile at Floor Specialist for our basement apartment and had no problems. I was actually pretty amazed at the selection we had given the size of the island etc.

Can you give driving directions to Home & Tool if you were coming from Sunny Isle? I tried calling them, but got no reply today.
From Sunny Isle, go straight toward Hovensa. When you get to Hovensa, turn left. Stay on that road and when it forks off to the left (and up), stay on the straight, lower road. When you get to the T intersection, you are there. On the right through a chain link fence. Sign on the building.
There is a tile store adjacent to Armrey's that has a fairly wide selection of tile. They have a nice showroom and do tile work as well as sell only the tiles. I think they have a better selection of more upscale tiles than any other place I have been to on St. Croix, and I have been to just about all of them. We had them retile the downstairs of our house last year with a travertine tile and thought it turned out well.
honey,
There are people who act as "concierge" in SJU, who will pick you up at the airport and take you to exactly where you need to go, all pre-arranged, so no need to try to give taxis directions or try to find it on your own in a rental car. I don't have any contact info, but I'm sure someone on here does. I'm pretty sure they get a cut-back from wherever you buy, so just keep that in mind as you negotiate your needs. It's not for everyone who just needs a 10 X 10 room, but if you're doing major renovations, worth checking into.
Thanks for all the responses, and thanks for letting me know about the service in SJU, that sounds like a good idea. If someone does have contact info, that would be great. It would be a good idea, I don't really know SJU all that well. I've been there a couple of times but I haven't been able to get any shopping done.
Depending on what you are looking for , Miles of Tiles has great marble floor tiles for less than $6.00 a square foot I think. Already on island... and I've seen them installed and they are very attractive. Contact the Women's Coalition as they are the ones selling them and they get a percentage of the sale. Women's Coalition flea market is located between Cost-U-Less and Brass Key.

Anyone know if the tile place that was next to Armrey's is still around and who they are? When I was in Amrey's last week I think the space next to them was vacant and don't recall any old signage.
I just tiled. Only 2 places on island with tiles is Floor Specialist and Home Depot. The others that I knew years back have all folded.
